Cologne wins petition - DeGroot eligible for VHLE play

Recommended Posts

KOLN - The Independent has learned today that the Cologne Express have won their petition with the VHLE head office that will allow ex-Brit Tavish DeGroot to play in the upcoming season. The petition comes following Team Europe's use of the Bosnian national in the world juniors, and his recent re-dedication to European hockey. DeGroot was previously barred from European competitions following an incident in the Scottish youth system that saw the youngster cause serious injuries to a vulnerable player, and the man has been in a coma since. The ban was laid for charging, intent to injure, and fighting off the playing surface. The final report also states that DeGroot has a "disregard for human life".

DeGroot recorded 24 goals and 53 points for the San Diego Marlins and was a dominating force on their special teams. The Express drafted the player knowing about the ban, which caused him to fall to 30th overall. They hope the big bodied defenseman can help soak up minutes, and provide a physical presence in front of the net, a glaring hole as Los Angeles' Florida Man torched them in the Renaissance Cup finals. DeGroot is yet to be drafted to the VHL, but has already stated his intention to remain in Koln for the duration of his ELC (European Level Contract) plus one year.
