An Interview With a Wrangler Star

Travis Boychuk has had an up and down season so far with the Wranglers. Although most recently things have been on the rise, there were no doubt struggling times along the way. Many analysts and fans alike were curious to see if he can be as great as he was in his rookie season. In his first season, he won the award for the VHL's best rookie, scoring over 100 points and ending the season as one of the leagues best.

In this 39th Season, Boychuk has more suitors on his squad to balance out the offense. That has not exactly drained points or playing time away from himself, but he simply is not as relied upon as before. That being said, he still brings the same game to the table. Currently 62 games in, he has 82 points with 35 of them being goals. 35 was the mark he ended on last year, and with the season dwindling down he will surely set a new milestone in the goal category. The one thing which is not certain is if he will hit the 100-point mark.

Now with all of that being brought to your attention, we have an exclusive interview with the Wranglers star.

Interviewer: Now in your second season in the VHL, what differences do you feel?

TB: It is a different atmosphere here in Calgary. We have some new players and a more winning attitude on the team. This season, we have been better at getting results. Through the beginning I took a beating in plus/minus, but it has gotten far better.

Interviewer: How do you feel about your production this season compared to last? You probably will not have as many points as last season but you have proved doubters wrong who thought your rookie season would be your best.

TB: I feel pretty content with how I've performed this season. Any goals from now are a new milestone for me and I've gotten better on the face offs. For my successes I need to thank my teammates as well. It's not all me. Hitting the 100-point mark has been in my mind in this final stretch, but I'm not sure I will get there this season. No big deal, though.

Interviewer: With how good you have been these first 2 seasons in the VHL, have you hit your ceiling?

TB: I always feel like I can get better as a player. There is still strength and skill to be gained and experience to be had. I still work hard every day to become a more complete player and all I want at this point is a Cup. There is no greater success than being the best in your league.

Interviewer: Your GM has made some big trades this season. Any thoughts on them?

TB: Koji was a great teammate and I have high hopes for his future. Whether it be with me or without, I wish him well. We also brought in some great talent to help with scoring and Encarnacion to bolster the blue line. Edwin has been nothing short of awesome so far. Giygas and Shetler have been fantastic additions. We gained some key picks for the future as well. I cannot argue with any of the decisions the organization has made.

Interviewer: Calgary is finally back in the post-season. What are your thoughts heading into the playoffs?

TB: Playing for the Cup is a dream come true for myself. It is one of the main reasons I came to the VHL. This is not only joyful for myself though. The Wranglers are back to getting successful and it is known that if you make it in, anything is possible. We need to get back to playing well before the season is over.

That concludes our in-depth interview with Travis Boychuk. We look forward to watching him and the Wranglers play in the future.
