Some people look at the New York Americans roster and assume that for the team and it's fans, everything is fine. After winning the Victory Cup last season and getting ousted in the conference finals by the Toronto Legion, a few questions could be heard whispered, but nothing really took off. This year could be the make or break for this incarnation of the Americans.

New York has to win the Continental Cup this season. New York has all the pieces in place to be another dynasty, a dynasty that they hope not just rivals but is better than the previous New York dynasty that made it into the playoffs a record 11 seasons in a row. However in order to do that, this dynasty is going to need to get it's first cup win sooner rather than later. Despite the fact that the last dynasty Americans run did make the playoffs 11 seasons in a row, and had numerous finals appearances, they only had one cup to show for their efforts.

Thus the questions have to be asked. Can New York get the "big win" out of the way relatively early in their potential dynasty run? If they can't, will doubt start to sink in again? Will they just be another version of a great American team who simply can't win the big one? A lot rides on what happens with the Americans in the finals this season, and their quick work of the Seattle Bears in five games was a statement series of confidence after what happened last year. But making the finals is only one step, and if the Americans really want to get this run started, a Cup is almost mandatory this season.
