Wranglers Final Games

Recommended Posts

Down 2-0 in the Semi-Finals, the Calgary Wranglers had a big hill to climb against the Toronto Legion. This was a Legion team that only had 5 more wins than Calgary in the regular season, so the possibility of a comeback was definitely there. The first 2 games of the series were close, so despite being down 2-0, the Calgary Wranglers had hope.

In Game 3, this one got started off early as the Legion took a lead. 57 seconds into the game, Matty Fire scored his 3rd of the playoffs, with assists going to Jakub Brozik and Sting Chameleon. Shortly afterwards, the Wranglers were given an opportunity as Toronto's Jannik Nylen took a diving penalty. At 2:14 of the period, Daniel Janser scored a PP goal to even this game up 1-1. Shane Lazeski had the only assist. Shots in the 1st Period were 13-12 in favour of Calgary, and the score stayed 1-1. The 2nd Period was a quiet one, although the Wranglers took a couple of penalties. Saku Kotkakoivu had an early high sticking call, and Bob Beach had a double minor in the first half of the period, but lucky for Calgary the Toronto Legion didn't extend their lead. 1-1 heading into the 3rd. 40 seconds into the 3rd Period, Saku Kotkakoivu took a hooking penalty and sent Toronto back to the PP. This time, the Legion would capitalize as Jannik Nylen scored 56 seconds into the period. Assists went to Cadmael Ixazaluoh and Weenuk Warrior. Both teams would then swap a couple of penalties each as the game wound down, but the Calgary Wranglers were unable to tie this game back up, and the score ended 2-1 for Toronto. Legion goaltender Oskar Lindbergh saved 28 of 29 and the Legion had a 3-0 stranglehold on the series. Calgary's Ben Dahl was no slouch either, saving 33 of 35 in a losing effort.

Game 4: Toronto_Bar.pngToronto Legion vs. Calgary WranglersCGY_bar_mFmKLZ5.png

Down 3-0 in the series, this was do or die for the Calgary Wranglers. Just like the first game, the Toronto Legion scored early in this one. Kyle Peace scored 39 seconds into the game, giving Toronto a 1-0 lead. Calgary would then kill off a penalty later in the period, but the 1st was pretty uneventful, with shots being 8 to 8. In the 2nd Period, Calgary was looking for an answer, but multiple penalties took away any momentum they had. Phil The Rock Johnson took a couple of early penalties that were killed off, and Calgary was given a chance on the PP themselves late in the period, but they were unsuccessful. Shots were 9 to 7 for Calgary, but the score remained 1-0 heading into the 3rd. Down 1-0 with their season on the line, the Wranglers were looking for a goal, and they got just that. At 11:59 of the 3rd Period, with only 8:01 left in the game, Daniel Janser scored his 2nd of the post-season, and this game was all tied up. Assists went to Shane Lazeski and James glove dropper. Unfortunately for Calgary, the Toronto Legion would respond quickly. Only a minute later at 13:00, Armani Calamari scored his first of the playoffs, giving Toronto a 2-1, and that lead held until the end of the game. Another 2-1 victory for the Toronto Legion, and a 4-0 sweep of the Calgary Wranglers. Toronto goaltender Oskar Lindbergh was the 1st Star of the Game once again, saving 26 of 27.

A 4-0 sweep after an exciting run into the playoffs for Calgary is quite disappointing, but they have a lot to be proud of and a bright future ahead of them.
