Miami Marauders: A Love Story

Over the last 4 seasons now I have been part of the Miami Marauders in some way. While I am not sure if my career in Miami is coming to an end I wanted to write a story about why Miami truly has a special place in my heart. I came back into the league in S80 after I remembered my time in the league. I created You Chiang and got an offer to play for the Miami Marauders by @Xflexz. I accepted the offer and found out that we didn't actually have that many players, and while I do not remember any of my teammates from when I joined the team I do remember two players that would join the team later.

 

First was a goaltender under the username collusion @Lemorse7. We would talk about the games and just have good conversations in Miami. Soon after collusions goaltender was created an even more popular player joined the team. A player who everyone who was a member at the time has some sort of memory about. Whether it was their original post about the problems with the VHLM or the drama as they reached their peak in the league. Horcrux was a character in the locker room who I never really got along with, but we agreed in certain things about how the VHLM has problems. We would make the playoffs that season but would be a first round exit. It was really disappointing but I refound an interest in something. 

 

Following that season xflexz stepped down for AGMing the Marauders and the two candidates for AGM of the team was myself and horcrux. @Ledgewas kind enough to select me to be his AGM and I am sure he is happy with his choice following what would happen with Horcrux. The following season was a change of pace for me since I was beginning my career in the VHLE. I never really got interested in the VHLE during my time in the league, but how poorly my player did probably did not help that. I however very much enjoyed seeing the new members join the league. 

 

In S81, the Miami Marauders would have many names come into the team that are noticable members of the league. During this season, @Shindigs, @Ben, @Sen, and @Buddha. All of these players I grew very close to and most of them I still talk to fairly often. While one of them left the league and it was one of the harder things I have seen in this league I understand why he left. This season sparked something in me that made me truly want to be a GM not just in the VHL as a whole but in the VHLM in general. This season is the season I would go back to if I could go back to any season in my time in the VHL. Looking at the names that were involved in this team it is a wonder how we didn't make playoffs, but that is how the cookie crumbles occasionally.

 

S82 was a season that was dominated by @Dom. I really think him for being a member of the locker room and having such a successful player that carried us to the playoffs. The other major players during this season were @Sen, @DC21, @Goonie77, and @ToooSaucey. While these players are largely unknown outside of Miami, I do hope they either come back or continue the careers in the VHL because all of them are very cool people and I wish them all the best.

 

This previous season, S83, was different. We had strong players like @Gustavs Art Vandelay and @lidz Nicholas Blue, but I felt like this was the season we had the opportunity to push for a cup. Ledge and I are very similar in our mindsets about how teams should run themselves in the VHLM and I know shindigs is similar as well. Unfortunately we lost a few players due to inactivity, but I hope they come back to the league. They are awesome people and the conversations we had in discord were always nice. After around 20 games I talked to ledge and convinced him that we should try to compete and with 3 trades we made a team that had depth. While not as strong as other teams we didn't want to miss playoffs next season. We don't believe that we will since we still hold some big picks next season, but it is good to compete with you have as good of a goalie as we did last season. I am upset that we couldn't win the cup but I am sure @Ledge will lead Miami there at some point.

 

To ledge... Ledge really is the first friendship I formed in this league and I believe to this day is the closest relationship I have in this league. While I want to become a GM in the league it will be incredibly bittersweet because the talks in GM_chat will no longer be happening. I know the Miami Management Podcast was a one episode thing, but it was a great memory and it was strange how quickly we were able to mesh. 

 

To my former teammates in Miami (besides Horcrux).... you were my first experience back into the league and I will always remember you for that. I hope that we will cross paths again or we can just have more conversations in the future.

 

To former players... I know there were times where it was hard in Miami and I hope I helped make it better. I tried my hardest to make Miami a better place and help everyone not only find their way into the league but also find friends. I wish you all the best and all of you will always be my first pick in any draft.

 

To anyone who comes into the Miami Locker room... you are appreciated. You don't have to come in and talk to the new members but you do. You help this team in many ways that are unfathomable to all of us. I hope you continue doing that and continue talking to the newest members of our fantastic community.

 

I truly love Miami and the day I leave it will be a tough day for me.

It was fun to be in Miami this season! I know we didn't win it all, but the team (and my own player!) exceeded my expectations.

 

You also deserve a lot of credit as an AGM--a big part of why I stayed locker-room-active this season was the energy you brought into our server. I think that's a really underrated part of being in management, and it's incredibly important for the VHLM.

I do feel like you've done a lot this season and really put yourself in a position where it's difficult to not consider you for a future GM job.

 

S81 Marauders was an interesting thing, lots of issues. But I know you did what you could to help with them. We just didn't have enough players to do anything and some very unfortunate timing with when the big ad dropped vs. management availability didn't help with that. Though for how few players we had it was kinda crazy how much activity we still got out of that LR. Especially after Buddha joined, was really sad to see him leave. But I get why he had to ofc. Was a great guy to talk to though and really passionate about the league in his short stay.

I forgot about this completely. I guess Miami has a multi problem. This is the first season since I have been the AGM we haven't had one banned.
