Amazon to Acquire the Halifax 21st?

HALIFAX, NS (PP) - Reports coming out of Halifax suggest that the local VHLM team, the Halifax 21st, could be under new management in the near future as their most recent resident, Amazon CEO Jeffrey Bezos @jsdeac, may be looking to acquire the club to add under the umbrella of his corporation.

Bezos' affiliation with the franchise began last year shortly before the S83 VHLM Dispersal Draft, when he very shockingly declared his eligibility for the event. General Managers were somewhat wary to select a man born in 1964, but 21st GM Samwell Xavierton @samx eventually took a chance with the multi-billionaire in the 5th round at 43rd overall. Bezos would go on to have a respectable season with Halifax, putting up 17 goals and 35 points in 72 games, though his production slowed somewhat during playoffs.

This season however, the Amazon CEO seems determined to increase his success with the team. The conditioning regime he has taken part in has him primed for more of a breakout performance in S84. Moreover, when Halifax was in desperate need for a goaltender to start the season, Bezos was able to use his wealth to create an extremely conspicuous clone of himself. This second Bezos @Quik, dubbed "Geoff," was then able to land in Halifax with their 8th overall pick in the S84 draft, which occurred almost a week ago.

However, the team still does not find themselves in the best position to win a Founder's Cup this year, and the original Bezos has allegedly been busy trying to rectify that. There's been discussion of further clones, but the VHL strictly prohibits the use of multis, which makes that too risky of an option. Reportedly his next plan would be to buy the team outright, so he can invest even further into the franchise's recruiting department, and use his company to ship in players from all over the world.

There would be much red tape to cut through for such an acquisition to be possible though. The VHL association itself controls all the teams in all three leagues, and the idea of selling one is unprecedented. It's common knowledge that the Commissioners are over cautious and slow moving at the best of times, so a deal like this could be years and years away yet, and by that time the VHL career of both Bezoses could already be over.

Until then, Halifans will be waiting with bated breath to see what's next in this strange saga.
