OTTAWA WINS FOUNDER'S CUP, GM GOW MOVES ON

OTTAWA, ON – Game 5 of the Season 39 Founder’s Cup started off with a bang. Four minutes and forty-nine seconds into the first period, Lynx center Thomas O’Malley won an offensive zone faceoff in the Storm zone and quickly roofed a shot past Niklaus Mikaelson to put Ottawa up 1-0. Just seven seconds later, O’Malley would add another one on for the Lynx, as the potential number one overall draft pick in the Season 40 VHL Entry Draft won the neutral zone faceoff and weaved his way into the offensive zone and scored on a nice wrist shot from the slot. Leo Tesla would add one more before the end of the period to make the score 3-0 Ottawa.

In the second period, Christoph Klose would decrease the deficit to two, but shortly after, Jacques Grande would send an easy tap in past Mikaelson to put the Lynx back up by three. However, Klose was having none of it, as he added another goal to his tally, making the score 4-2 Lynx. Both Mikaelson and Douffet were peppered with shots the rest of the period, but they stopped them all.

The third period was more of the same for the Lynx. Thomas O’Malley completed the hattrick seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds into the action. While Arthur Grosberg tried to make things interesting by making the score 5-3 with eleven minutes left, Douffet was able to shut the door the rest of the way. Longtime Lynx General Manager Jim Gow had this to say after the game:

“Obviously it feels great to go out on top. I knew for a while that this was going to be my last game as head honcho for the team, but it doesn’t make it any easier. I’m proud that we’ve been able to send a lot of guys to the VHL while I’ve been here, both players represented by renowned agencies and those who were seeing their first player in the league. Adding two Founder’s Cups on top of it all just makes it even more sweeter. Sam Helberg has done a hell of a job as a general manager before, so I know that the Lynx are in good hands.”

Jim will now go on to fill two roles full-time in the VHL starting next season. As newly appointed co-VHLM Commissioner, it wouldn’t be proper for him to stay on as leader of the Lynx, but it turns out he would have had to step down anyway, as the ex-VHL player would now go on to be a VHL head boss, taking the recently vacated general manager position from the Riga Reign. While he leaves the VHLM with a plethora of awards, Jim knows that the VHL will be much harder to achieve success in.

I suppose I will congratulate you on your victory. In all seriousness, I was satisfied with our one win lmao. Klose and Light certainly made you guys work for it, though. Great tenure in Ottawa as GM and best of luck with the move to Riga.
