Ranking the Theme Weeks from S66 - Present

Hi in this article to celebrate the VHL’s 15th Birthday I will go through all the theme weeks I have ever participated in and give you my honest thoughts on them. I believe a good theme week is broad enough that it entices interesting content that is different from the person who posted before. But, narrow enough that you roughly know what you are going to get when you read an article.

 

S66 – Playoffs

                This was my first theme week and I thought it was a really cool idea, you saw a lot of articles and graphics depicting the upcoming match ups, peoples brackets. Was overall a pretty fun theme week with some good articles.

S67 – VHL Expansion

                This was in my opinion the best theme week we have had so far, everyone had ideas about where the next two expansion teams would go, but there was so many ideas and creativity it was fun. Even seasons later people were still updating their designs and talking about potential expansion locations.

S68 – League History

                I personally did not like this one at first but it turned out to probably teach me the most about the ins and outs of the portal and forum. I went back and rated all known Australian players was a ton of fun.

S69 – Unsung Heroes

                One of the most broad ideas we have seen and it had a lot of people being mentioned and it was cool to read about the people you didn’t know and what made them great.

S70 – Potential Future Hall of Famers

                I remember at the time seeing a lot of articles about Rayz Funk who was popping off at the time. A few other people were noted and most ended up making the hall of fame. It was a good idea but don’t think it was broad enough to have people having a ton of interest in all the articles as there was a lot of similar ideas.

S71 – Recruitment

                I believe this one was a Beav idea. I didn’t like it that much as recruitment isn’t my strong point. I think this one was really aimed at the graphics people.

S72 – Members you may not know that well

                I don’t remember this one too much but I believe it was a bit of a flop, I remember a lot of graphics about players which isn’t much different to the week to week posting of graphics we see on the forum.

S73 – Future VHL Creates

                I liked this one as you could be wild and talk about all the meme builds you could do in the VHL without having to actually commit to one.

S74 – Dream Team

                This is always a hit, as people have multiple seasons to look through you got to see a lot of cool articles and teams being built

S76 – VHL Vacation

                This was dumb it was too far removed from the VHL that it wasn’t really interesting to me. Would probably get denied as an update now as not being related to the league enough.

S77 – VHL Alternate Reality

                This was a little bit interesting, but I don’t remember much about it. I would be interesting to revisit this one, I think it would bring some interesting articles.

S78 – VHLE

                Bring on the hate, I don’t think that I have seen as much hate for an announcement made in the VHLE. And I remember the excitement that the commisses had before this.

S79 – VHL Awards

                This was sort of a middle of the line one. A lot of basic articles from what I remember with some that were renaming VHL Awards which was cool.

S80 – Life after the VHL

                Please see S76, I think it follows the same structure. Because retirement is really a big vacation.

S82 – VHL Dream Team

                See S74 It is a repeat

S83 – VHL Appreciation

                I think this had potential but I don’t remember it being that big of a success to be honest.

S84 – 15th Birthday

                I feel like this is just a repeat of VHL history.

I still cannot believe we had "VHL Vacation" as a theme. Imagine getting double the TPE because you wrote about your player going to the beach instead of looking at stats or something.

We do need 6 of these a year on average, there are bound to be a few stinkers and repeats.

Yeah I don't blame you some sound great on paper but don't work out. Not blaming anyone just trying to earn TPE

At least new members who were not there for the first time a theme was around got a chance to participate in the repeat the second time around. Just another way to look at it as well.

Next time we should get a doubles week for actually going to the beach instead of writing about it.
