Boychuk Re-Signs With Calgary

After spending his beginning years donning the red jersey, superstar centerman Travis Boychuk has re-upped with the Calgary Wranglers. The contract is one that will remain for 3 seasons at a $3 Million per year buy. This is superb for the Wranglers, who know what comes to the table when Boychuk steps onto the ice. Since stepping into the VHL, he has been a Top 10 point producer for both seasons. He will be the anchor on offense for years to come, and on this uphill climb that the Wranglers are going through they cannot ask for any more than that.

In his first 2 seasons, Boychuk scored more than most people would expect. Coming in as a rookie, he showcased his skills in a big way. In Season 38, he scored 103 points and won the trophy for Best Rookie. This past season of the 39th, he scored another 91 points. Combined, that makes 194 points in just 141 games. He has shown to be consistent at getting on the scoreboard and brought his team to the playoffs in his first season as captain.

With all this being said, we bring to you an interview with the man on his new contract.

Interviewer: You have made a commitment to stay with Calgary for another 3 seasons. What went through your mind on deciding this?
TB: It was an easy decision to make. Calgary was interested in me from the get-go when I made my mark in the VHLM and the team has been nothing but good to me.

-------------------------------

Interviewer: Were there any thoughts on leaving the team for another one through Free Agency?
TB: Free Agency was never a thought in my mind. I knew since the season started that I would be re-signed in Calgary, and money was not an issue. There are other teams which are appealing to me for sure, but I am staying put here.

--------------------------------

Interviewer: Any major thoughts onto what persuaded you to re-sign?
TB: My team is on the up and up. I knew in my first year here that we could only get better. We have a solid goaltender in net and some key players in every position. Things will only get better from here. I hate losing, and I know this team is going to get better.

----------------------------------

Interviewer: Was there any interest from outsiders heading into the off-season?
TB: There were a few teams that were interested in me if I headed to Free Agency. I am sure that they knew of my commitment to Calgary and I let them know that.

------------------------------------

Interviewer: What is next on your schedule for this off-season?
TB: There are lots of activities to look forward to. The VHL Awards are coming up, and I have lots of training to get to for next season. I do not want to stop working, and I only want to get better.

That does it for this exclusive interview with Wranglers' star Travis Boychuk. The Calgary squad has looked impressive on their uprising for awhile and they will only get scarier as time goes on. Captain Boychuk certainly wants the Cup as much as anyone does, and it will be interesting to see what he can do to help his team get to that goal.
