jacobaa19 191
With Doug Matchett hitting the TPE limit for the VHLE recently we decided it would be a great idea to take a look into this promising players career leading up to this point. In his very first season in the M, Doug Matchett put up 26 points in 50 games with the Las Vegas aces. Only joining part way through the season I suppose he was a very solid pickup for the aces adding in 18 points in a 16 game playoff run. Although they came up short in the end it was a very impressive start to his career. After a very impressive start to his career Matchett was picked 7th overall by Halifax . In a short run with Halifax he would put up 42 points in 44 games At the trade deadline he would request a trade to a contender knowing his time in the M was limited. His requested would be granted and he would be moved to Houston shortly after his request. After the trade Matchett would put up 32 points in 26 games helping his team get into the post-season showing he was a force at both ends of the ice. He would end his season with 74 points in 70 games with a total of 100 points in the VHLM. The bulls had a very deep play off run where matchett would put up 18 points in 19 games, once again his team would come up short. A small concern with his game began coming up, was he purely offensive? His defensive game began to show some major problems. Was he just to slow or was he too focused on offense? Although he couldn’t get a championship in the M he had a very solid start to his career and the following season he would move up and joins Cologne. Drafted 33rd overall Matchett was excited to finally suit up in a new league. While not being at the top of the league skill wise he would still manage 53 points in 72 games. Not bad for a rookie defender. Although his performance in his own end became a slight question mark as he would have a +/- of -11. Something that did not improve in his short run in the playoffs. Only having 1 point and a -4 cologne was out in 4 games. during the off-season Matchett would completely re-vamp his game to improve himself. He put in long hours training all off-season to prepare. coming into this season he knew he was close to a shot in the big leagues he just had to prove himself. So far this season he has put up 40 points in 59 games with a +/- of 8. With the post season getting closer and closer will Matchett finally get a cup? Certainly a promising prospect for the Americans, when will Matchett be called up? Will he have to wait for next season or will it be sooner than we think?
