Claimed:Claimed:Samuelsson Reflects on Season, Looks Forward to Future

Recommended Posts

Borje Samuelsson was supposed to be the next big thing. He entered the VHLM with high expectations, after excelling in every league he had previously played. Unfortunately, he did not experience the type of season he would've hoped to have. In nineteen games, the puck moving defenceman had managed to find himself on the score sheet four times, with one of those points being a goal. Samuelsson was heard saying this, after the Red Wolves' final game of the season.

"I'm really disappointed in myself. I thought I had what it takes to be an elite player in the VHLM. Maybe I'm mistaken. I should probably go back home and rethink my career, here."

There is one group who never gave up on the youngster, however. The Red Wolves. The team continued to give Samuelsson time on the ice in many different situations, and he seemed to improve in every game he played. Although Samuelsson did not register a point, in the Red Wolves' series loss this past playoffs, he did post a respectable plus minus, clocking in at a plus-two. That stat is a tremendous improvement over his minus-twenty from the regular season.

"Borje's really tried hard to improve himself," a teammate said, "He's always working on his game. Everyday, he's the last person off the ice. You can just tell that he wants to be a household name. I think he's going to take his skills to the next level once he hits the VHL ice."

Even with the high praise from his team, Samuelsson has been hit with heavy criticism for his actions off the ice.

"Really? I'm a teenaager, and people are getting on my back for me wanting to have fun. Yes, I have a job to do in the sense that I should practice everyday. Whatever, when I'm the best player in the VHL, I'll remember these days."

The Red Wolves management seem to believe Samuelsson's remarks. As they traded for the big Swede in the S40 VHLM Dispersal Draft. The team chose him with confidence in the second round, thirteenth overall, while passing over some big names. Samuelsson, unfortunately, was unable to attend the draft, due to personal reasons, but sent this statement in regards to tonight's events.

"I'm really happy that I'm going to be able to continue my career in Moscow. I really enjoyed my time there, last season, and I knew that the team had high hopes for me. It really shouldn't be a surprise, but it's a really nice feeling to know they're behind me."

With the backing that Moscow has shown the young player, and the commitment he continues to show toward improving, it really is impossible to determine how high he will fly. His potential is sky high right now, and Moscow is really hoping that their gamble pays off. Scouts everywhere should keep an eye on this kid.
