Okranitz gets his chance

A big move by the Yukon Rush GM to draft Fedir Okranitz in the 3^rd round could turn out to be one of the biggest steals of last night’s draft. Coming into the VHLM rather unknown and on short notice, very few of the teams knew of the young Ukranian. The Rush GM saw the potential and realized he could become one of the top goaltenders with the right mentoring, using his only pick in the first 3 rounds to pick up the goaltender was a bold move, and it could end up being one of the smartest. With goaltenders being a rare and hot commodity nowadays, finding one willing to put in the work to improve can be a challenge. Okranitz is up for the challenge, when the media asked him how he felt after he heard his name, he had this to say.

 

“I couldn’t be happier, being a late entry I figured I would be dropped to late 4^th or early 5^th round, but a team using their first pick of the draft, even with it being in the 3^rd round, is a big deal to me. I owe them a lot”
