The New York Americans, North America’s laughing stock franchise for the past 20 seasons, seemed destined to maintain their stronghold in the basement of the NA standings once again. It certainly started out that way, with MexicanCow’s roster starting off the year losing 10 out of 11 games. Having pieced together a group of ragtag, expiring contracts with veteran players along with some unproven youth, the year seemed to be just another step in the continuous efforts to rebuild the roster. Forwards Connor Wilson (Free agent signing S84) S79 Draftee Tyler Reinhart (Traded to New York S83) S79 Draftee Maximus Decimus Meridius (Traded to New York S84) S81 Draftee Robert Wilk (Traded to New York S84) S81 Draftee Miles Johnson (Free agent signing S84) S77 Draftee Lochlan Chisholm (Free agent signing S84) S77 Draftee Defense Jerome Reinhart (Traded to New York S83) S79 Draftee Sven Eightnine (Traded to New York S84) S80 Draftee Pierre Emile Bouchard (Drafted by New York S84) S84 Draftee Goaltender Augustus Kennedy (Drafted by New York S82) S82 Draftee As painful as this roster may have looked, on the bright side there would be plenty of cap space and roster spots available for the upcoming Season 85, with some upcoming talent in the mix to fill up some of the empty positions with cheap contracts. With the season having already turned south and a change in management, the team turned face and began, again, looking towards the future, trading one of its more valuable assets in Pierre Emile Bouchard (PEB) and a career minor leaguer for a first, second and minor leaguer of equal value. This was, in management’s mind, a necessary evil to acquire more talent in the upcoming draft (although a risk given the lottery tournament), specifically at forward. As the trade deadline approached and with the league having been out of hand for quite some time, management turned over some of their veteran players to European power Riga Reign for a younger and unproven talent in Chiang and an expiring defenseman contract with Nathan Powers, along with a draft pick. Riga was interested in pushing their chips in for one final playoff push and so the two teams were able to come to an agreement. Having moved towards the offseason and not really gaining any ground in the lottery tournament, New York was fisted anally by a circus monkey and drew the sixth overall pick, which was the lowest they could acquire. With intensions of making a splash in the draft and grabbing a premier player, a series of trades we put together to help acquire the likes of Daniel Weaver who had among the top practice hours of any draft-eligible players. Of course, this was necessary for obvious reasons: As was this: But to get back on track, New York moved up yet again to take a player with a celebrated history in the VHL at 13th overall with Babay Shrimp: With the 20+ million dollars in cap space available having completed the draft, New York set its sights on acquiring a few new veteran players on their roster, selling them on the newfound youth and activity that the franchise had generated over the last few weeks. Starting off with Taylor Mourning, a storied forward whose agency was very familiar with New York, leaped at the opportunity to help right the team’s ship in Season 85. This was followed the day after with two impact players choosing New York as well, in Poopy Peepants and Henri le Massif. Having since called up three prospects to round out the roster (Weaver, Maellard and Matchett), the team prepares for Season 85 with only 3 players starting on the same roster as Season 84.
