My thoughts on the Mexico City Kings Draft and Short Season Predictions

Thoughts on the Mexico City Kings Draft:

This season, I came in knowing that we wouldn't have our first round pick and that we were most likely not going to be stacked outside of the gate. I tried to target players who I thought had room to grow and wanted to be apart of the Mexico City Kings organization. I know at the end of the day, most people will play for whoever they got drafted to in the M, but I specifically targeted players that had great interviews or that talked about how they were excited to play for Mexico City in their response. Before the draft though, I had to address the fact that @Bobo asked to be traded to a contender (which I respect), as he was a huge part of our team last season and I will honor the request. I ended up having trade talks with many teams, but at the end of the day he ended up heading to Miami for two thirds and two fourths, which in my eyes was a great return for such a player. Back to the draft, I ended up taking @xslapxshotsx 17th overall. He was a great part of the team last season and was just starting to learn what the VHL was all about, and how to build a player, so I thought I'd bring him back for another season. Next up, we go to the third round where I had back to back picks at 27th and 28th overall. To me, these were no-brainer picks, as I selected @Keno and @Jayhawk, two players who had great interviews and responded fairly fast. I really liked what both of them had to say and I'm eager to teach them and build them into the player(s) that they want to become! Now, we slip into the fourth round where I selected @Zetterberg, who seemed like a very interesting pick at the time. However, before the draft I ended up asking him if he'd come back from being IA, to which he said he would, and I had now acquired myself a starting goaltender in the fourth round! The fifth round was my actual last pick before I ended up picking random players, in which I selected @fonziGG, who said he would love to play for me, and he did play for my team last season. The next two picks in @StackThePads and @Beau were random picks that I ended up just throwing a dart at a wall, so hopefully they end up panning out as that would be pretty lucky! I can't wait for the season to start to be honest, as I feel like we can seriously make some noise this season. A lot of these players I'm really hyped to be working with and this season will for sure be something different, as we are not towards the top, so every game is going to count for us.

Overall, I feel like this season is going to be a learning season for my team. We're not as stacked as we were in previous seasons, where we put up 40+ wins both seasons, however I still believe that we can be a scary underdog team if we make the playoffs. I mean, we saw the Reapers make the playoffs and end up winning it all, so all you realistically have to do is make the playoffs and anything can happen! Also, I will be attempting to follow other team's a little bit more and their storylines, as the last two seasons I didn't do so.

Short Season Predictions:

These predictions won't be super in depth, just basically a sentence of why I think they are at where they are, I might do more in depth later on, who knows. Without further adew, let's get to the very short predictions!

1. San Diego Marlins

This team is absolutely stacked with how many picks they have, and I feel like right out the gate they're already favorites to win the cup.

2. Ottawa Lynx

This team had a great draft and a lot of top picks. They also have defenseman, which a lot of teams lack. I feel like they'll be able to contest the Marlins this season.

3. Philadelphia Reapers

The team that won the past season is ranked at number three, but they're still a damn solid team. However, having no defenseman will hurt in the short run.

4. Saskatoon Wild

Coming in at fourth is the Saskatoon Wild. This team had a really good draft and I feel like this team is always hovering around 4th-5th, so I believe they'll be in that spot this season.

5. Miami Marauders

Coming it at fifth is the Marauders. I think getting Bobo was a huge plus for the team, and their draft wasn't bad either. However, lacking a goalie can hurt them early on, hence why I have them lower.

6. Mexico City Kings

Sliding in at sixth is the Kings. People might call this a bit biased, but the difference between the Kings roster and the team that is ranked next, is the Kings have a goalie, which will help them early on.

7. Las Vegas Aces

The Aces had a similar draft to the Kings in my opinion, however they were left without a bunch of picks, so unfortunately they will suffer. We'll see how they do under a new GM!

8. Halifax 21st

The final team in the playoffs, that is in my eyes very similar and close in talent to Mississauga is the Hounds. I feel like anyone from 6th-9th could swap positions, but I have Halifax initially ranked here.

9. Mississauga Hounds

Unfortunately, this means that the Hounds are just out of the playoffs. I think they will contend and be right there, but at the end of the season they'll just fall short.

10. Houston Bulls

This team will by far be at the bottom. They lack players and went on a rebuild, so I don't expect them to be too good, but they should be better than the Hounds last season.

There are my very short with no analysis rankings! I hope you guys enjoyed this Media Spot and I can't wait for the regular season to start!

Yeah I agree with you here. I think we had one of the better drafts in the league based on my interviews of course you stole some really good players as always, but I do fear if we can't get a waiver goalie early in the season we could struggle.

Hopefully some waivers create as goalies, that would be ideal for everyone. I just want a fun league this season tbh.
