Yaroslav “Big Boga” Bogatyrev is in the VHL. The 6’6’’ Russian forward is set to make his VHL debut on Monday evening as the Seattle Bears drop the puck in their season opener.

Bogatyrev arrived in Seattle one week ago after being selected with the second overall pick by the Bears in the S86 VHL Entry Draft.

“I’m delighted to be here. It’s been a great week so far in Seattle and it’s been fantastic to join the team as we get ready for what could be a great season,” Bogatyrev told reporters after practice on Sunday.

A lot is expected of the Nizhnii Tagil native in S86, off the back of solid performances in both the VHLE and the World Junior Championships.

However, Bogatyrev said that team success was of paramount importance to him.

“I know that I have to perform well, because there will be pressure on the management from people who may say that I’m not ready to make the jump into the VHL yet. I’m continuing to work on my two-way game, as I think that I can make a difference on the defensive side of the puck first,” Bogatyrev remarked.

The Russian forward has selected #47 with the Bears.
