Siyan Yasilievich - Biography

Early Years

Siyan Yasilievich was born in Toksovo, Russia, a small town with a population of only around 6,000 people in it. As a young lad, Siyan didn't really care too much about hockey and was more focused on his studies at school, where he wanted to attend university one day. Just like every kid, Siyan wanted to dream big and as a child, he was always fascinated with space and wanted to become an astronaut when he was older. At the age of seven years old, Siyan was gifted his first pair of skates by his father, who was a huge hockey fan, especially for Russia. His father had ended up playing in a couple of lower tier Russian leagues, and his dream for his son was to one day become a pro player and dominate the game. It wasn't until Siyan finally stepped on a pond for the first time with ice skates did he realize his passion for hockey, a new spark in his life that would eventually become his career.

Teenage Years

Heading into his teenager years, Siyan eventually decided that it was time for him to tryout for his high school hockey team. When he went to tryouts, his high school coach was impressed at the fact that he could easily blow by some of the best skaters the high school had to offer, and he was put on the team. A year later at a practice, Siyan was offered a spot on a MHL team, as a scout just happened to be passing by while he was doing his usual skating routine to get ready for practice. He would go on to play in the MHL, and at first struggled, only putting up a single point in ten games. However, after some time he was dominating the MHL and would eventually get the call to join the Philadelphia Reapers in the VHLM.

Heading to North America

This would be the first time that Siyan would be outside of Russia, and since he spoke little English, it was a bit of a hassle at first to get accustomed to North America. His beginning in Philadelphia wasn't very good either, as he was a fourth pairing defenseman and would have to fight his way into the lineup every single day. On top of that, it took him 10 games just to record a single point on the point sheet, but nevertheless it was finally done. Siyan enjoyed his time in Philadelphia, meeting new people and learning English from his peers, who were very helpful. Siyan also enjoyed the Philly Cheesesteak that Philadelphia had to offer, and to this day it is one of his favorite meals. However, the next chapter in his life would be heading back to Europe, as he would soon enter the VHLE and VHL draft, where he would be selected by the Istanbul Red Wolves and HC Davos Dynamo.

Tracking it back to Europe

Siyan was familiar a bit with Europe, as he had lived in Russia, however being in Turkey and Switzerland were too completely opposite places. First, Siyan would head to Turkey to join the Istanbul Red Wolves for a season, which were some of the best times in his life. He had met a bunch of great people in his time there, and to this day he still speaks to a couple of them, despite being on opposite teams in the VHL. On top of that, Siyan had already knew some basic English, so he could communicate with his teammates better on and off the ice. Although his time was short in Istanbul, he enjoyed every second of it, including his famous speeches where they would eventually go on a fourteen game win streak after one of them. He was a natural leader and could get the team out of any rut that they were in, something that would prove useful later on. Siyan would then head to Davos, where he has spent the last three seasons of his career. It took a bit getting accustomed to Davos, but after a while it was just like home back in Toksovo, Russia. He eventually would gain the Captaincy, and to this day is still the captain. Siyan owes a lot of his career to his mother and father, where they had helped him get into hockey, purchasing him his first pair of skates. If that had never happened, Siyan might've been an astronaut and not even touched the ice once! Or maybe, he would've touched ice in space? Who knows!

What is next?

Regardless, Siyan knows that this is just the beginning of his career and he has many things ahead of him. Davos finally has started to compete and Siyan will be looking to lead them to a cup for the first time in a very long time! Maybe after he retires, he'll decide to go to space! I'm sure when he retires, people might already be heading to space, and he'll be joining them shortly after.
