As our more ardent followers of this series might know, Calgary (and by proxy, the Jansers) were not able to defeat Vancouver, despite a one-sided record against this team in the regular season. Once more, GM Ricer needs to go back to the drawing board and to the statistics to find out, why the Wranglers could not convert their regular season dominance into the playoffs. This newspaper believes that the achilles heel in the team is the starting netminder Dahl. With the exception of three skaters, all the Wranglers performed on par or better in the post season than in the 72 games leading to the playoffs. Vancouver's Fuhr clearly stole two wins (arguably three). Dahl was not able to match this pace, which in combination with a very weak powerplay ultimately lead to the bitter end for the Albertan franchise.

Marcel: 5gp, 1g, 2a, 3pts, -3, 8 PIM, 9 hits, 7 sb, 1ppg

Daniel: 5gp, 4g, 5a, 9pts, +5, 22 PIM, 22 hits, 6sb, 61.87FO%

 

While the early R&R phase is a shame for the ambitious Swiss delegation in Alberta, it has its (albeit bittersweet) advantages. Dan has signed up for the ProAm tournament again and he may even represent Western Europe in the upcoming WC, so there is still hope that he can add some silverware to his personal trophy case. 

 

For all those who were not able to watch Calgary's last match (or preferred to switch off after the final whistle): As soon as the horn ended the series, Daniel took the mic, went on his knee and proposed to Bonnie. The Scottish Punkrocker accepted under tears. A date for them tying the knot is not determined yet, but we will make sure to let our readers know as soon as we have more details on the matter.
