Earlier today, the Wolves traded one of their elite defenders Ryuji Sakamoto, who was originally acquired (along with a LAS S90 2nd round pick) during last offseason in a 3-way trade with D.C. Dragons and Los Angeles Stars in exchange for Sting Chameleon, Nezuko and S90 1st round pick.

Compared to what have the Wolves given up in exchange for Sakamoto, the return felt maybe a bit underwhelming. Sakamoto was traded to Helsinki for an experienced defenseman Marcel Janser and Riga's S89 2nd round pick.

An hour after said trade came through, the Wolves placed an inactive claim on another veteran defenseman Logain Ablar. Suddenly the Wolves found themselves with 5 defensemen on their roster, something not very common in the league.

A few hours later, the Wolves and London United agreed to a trade, where London acquired Marcel Janser, and Vancouver brought another veteran defenseman Branden Skuin and Davos's S89 2nd round pick. The trade is waiting to be approved by the league.

So far, the trade balance is:

Arrivals: RIG S89 2nd, DAV S89 2nd, Branden Skuin, Logain Ablar

Departures: Ryuji Sakamoto

As much as the return for Sakamoto felt underwhelming at first, it has started a chain reaction and it does look much better now.

The question is, are the Wolves stockpiling picks to use in the drafts, or to use as trade assets? Considering there are still 5 defenseman on the Wolves roster, another trade including a blueliner might be coming very soon, Wolves are a team to keep your eyes on for a bit.

Forgot to add Marcel Janser to the departure list.

I didn't add him because he wasn't a part of the team before the trades started happening

Makes sense then since we did only move Sakamoto for two 2nds & two defenders!!

edit* at the moment!!
