Outlining is a style and you seem to like it and that's not a bad thing. I would say it looks like a great start. A couple of things I think could be changed to make this graphic a bit better. Try not to have a lot of dead space. Even a faint texture or something like the team logo in the background will fill in the blank area. Another thing I think gets overlooked is the render could have been on the other side so he is looking inward instead of on the edge looking out.
