Jarmo Ruutu - what makes him interesting? The first thing you notice about him is his size and willingness to play physically. The second thing is the timing of when he joins the VHLM, the season is just about to start. It is unclear what happened back in Finland, but reports and rumors coming from Finland suggest Jarmo changed his mind and decided to make the jump to NA this season. He was originally supposed to play one more season in Finland before coming over to NA.

 

The future for Jarmo is still full of question marks; does he have what it takes to be a first-round pick? Can he ever make it to VHL?

 

When comparing TPA, Jarmo is currently ranked around 18 among all S90 draftees. With hard work and steady progress, Jarmo could have what it takes to sneak in as a late first-round pick, which would help his VHL dreams significantly as first-round picks are usually given more opportunities to show what they can do in the big league. If you are drafted in the second round or later, you need to really stand out from the group, and at the same time there is less room for mistakes as competition is fierce.

If you think about it, it really doesn’t matter where you go in the draft. Careers are long and people tend to fall off of consistent weekly activity. If Jarmo is determined to be great then we’ll see him in a couple seasons laughing at every team who passes on him
