Commissioner for a Day: What would I do?

What would I do?

There's a lot of different ideas I've seen people coming up with throughout the week as what they would do as a commissioner, like abolishing the E as the main one. However, I'm deciding to take a bit of a different path, as instead, I'm going to merge the E with the M. My idea is that I want to have an affiliates system just like the NHL, where we'll have two leagues instead of three, (the name of the second league can be VHLM), and it'll be a farm system for the VHL teams. Now, at the moment, that wouldn't be possible as we currently only have 8 VHLE teams and 10 VHLM teams, meaning we would need to get two more teams. I don't specifically have any ideas at the moment on what the teams would be called, but let's use two JST teams just to fill the gap for the time being, the Brigade and the Royals. We'll have them slot in as affiliates for this. So now we've got 20 VHL teams and 20 VHLM teams ready to go, but how would this work?

How would it work, a rough idea

So now that we've basically got two leagues, one main league and one farm system league, we can now get rid of the VHLE/VHLM draft, as they'll no longer be needed. We'll now have a centralized single draft, so there's no confusion on which draft you're going to be in. We'll have it where you play a single season in the minors as a waiver, (we can keep the waiver system), and then you get drafted onto a VHL team. After that, you will then sign a 3 season entry level deal, where you're most likely going to be going straight to the minors. The VHL team will hold your rights for 3 seasons and you'll play on their affiliate team, until either you become a free agent and don't resign, you get called up, you get traded, or you go IA. Also, the TPE cutoff is going to be 400 TPE for the minors, so if you're above 400 TPE you are automatically forced to play in the VHL. You can also get called up by your VHL team if you're at 350 TPE if they so choose, or they can keep you in the minors.

What are the minors GMs going to do?

In the minors, it seems like there's not much to do for the GMs as the VHL team basically is handling everything. I believe that having a minors GM would be very important, as you're going to need someone to do lines, keep the locker room active, etc. With only a single GM running both the majors team and the affiliate, they might get burnt out and be overwhelmed pretty fast. The affiliate GM can also work on trades, however they'd have to be approved by the majors team, as it directly involves their players.

Could this work?

Could this actually work? I have no clue really. I do like the idea of affiliates and it would be cool to see how they would work, however I don't think it'll become a reality while I'm in the VHL (joined S82). It would require a lot of work and I think the system we have now is completely fine, so there's really no reason to change something that currently is working.
