Riley Martin will be heading to Stockholm to play in the VHLE in Season Ninety-Two after a longer than anticipated wait during the VHLE Entry draft. Martin had to wait until the fourth and final round before Stockholm called his name, something that will hopefully inspire the young American winger after a disappointing season last year with the Halifax 21st of the VHLM. Last season with a short bench in Halifax Martin put up a disappointing twenty-six goals and twenty-two points in the seventy-two regular season games he played in, along with the fourth worst plus minus in the VHLM with a minus thirty-three. Martin will need to iMovie in many areas if he wishes to have an impactful role with Stockholm in Season Ninety-two.

Goal scoring-  With only twenty-six goals last season on 211 shots, Martin needed to work on his shooting ability during the off-season. He fully committed to his the past few week and was able to hit the ice each week working on a quicker release with former NHLer and current mentor to NHL stars such as Connor McDavid, Gary Roberts. With Roberts leading the training for Martin, one would expect Martin to put up better numbers than he did last season in the VHLM.

Locker Room Presence- While Martin believes he has a decent presence in his teams locker room over the past year and a half he spent in the VHLM, his agent played him a clip from the VHLE draft where one of the commentators stated he doesn’t respond to messages. While this shocked Martin as no VHLE GMs reached out to Martin and he responded as quick as he could to the three VHL GMs that reached out to him, Martin will need to improve on this perceived notion of him. While Martin tries to hype up his teammates during practice he might have to start looking at engaging with others around the league that he doesn’t have daily interactions with.

After being drafted Twenty-First overall expectations for Martin are not very high, but expectations for the rest of the Vikings will be much higher. After finishing last season as the fourth best team in the VHLE, Stockholm is expecting more this season, especially offensively where they currently have eight roster players, compared to the lone defenseman currently on the roster. While the Vikings management are appearing to bank on out scoring opponents each night, they can look toward their Ninth Overall selection Giorgiy Constanza to help out the defense each night, as he showed last season in Halifax, he doesn’t need much of a roster in-front of him to make an impact. We will have to wait and see what this season has in store of the Vikings with the roster assembled over the course of the last few seasons.
