Noodle Enjoyer 201
The VHL Season is now about two weeks old and some teams have lived up to expectations such as teams like the Seattle Bears and the London United who sit near the top of their respective conferences. There are teams who are pleasantly surprised with how their season has played out so far, the Calgary Wranglers immediately comes to mind in that regard, and of course teams whose start wasn't what they were expecting two teams I would put on that list are the Warsaw Predators and the Vancouver Wolves. Speaking on the Wolves, they were expecting to be near the top of the North American Conference with all the additions they had made prior to the start of the season as well as with the progression of their rookies from the previous season. Of course not everything goes as well as it is written on the whiteboard and the team found itself struggling in the early days of the season, so much so they decided to shake things up early on. They would come to an agreement with the Riga Reign that would see them acquire forward Martin Kemp, and top center prospect Pierre Marc Bouchard as well as a season 96 third-round pick. Martin Kemp seems to have immediately meshed with the team putting up seven goals and eleven points in just ten games since arriving and is helping Vancouver push their way up the standings. In order to make this deal, the Wolves had to move veteran forward The Frenchman as well as rookie right winger Annie Oaks with the addition of a season 95 Calgary second-round pick. While The Frenchman was performing well for Vancouver with five goals and twelve points in thirteen games played Oaks seemed to struggle in that time only scoring two points in the same amount of games and with this being Frenchman's final season maybe they thought they'd go younger while still maintaining a strong roster for this season. Speaking on the play of the players that Riga acquired in this deal so far The Frenchman has put up four goals and six points in the ten games since joining the team and Annie Oaks has scored three goals and five points in those same games while getting used to playing a lesser role on a third line playing about nine minutes a game. It's safe to assume that after a great offseason for Oaks that saw her tear up the World Juniors while winning gold for team Europe that she would have a better start to her VHL career but it seems her VHLE struggles will follow her into the top league. Riga itself like Vancouver made some big moves this offseason hoping to compete around rookie sensation Lucy Leitner picking up notable talents such as Skor and Oreo McFleury as well as Sadie St-Louis and sit just outside the top three teams in the European Conference. With the addition of a veteran leader such as The Frenchman Riga is hoping to move up the standings to solidify their position early in the year.
