Demidov is a Blackhawk, simple as.

Really depends on how they want to build the roster around Bedard, adding more offensive talent is always a good thing but finding a massive Defensive Defenceman that has already played against men and should only get stronger as he ages means I think they go with Anton Silayev and not Artyom Levshunov, the big puck moving defenceman. If they want offense than I think you are right they would draft the best offensive player in the draft in Ivan Demidov; not to mention the second pick at 18th allows them to take a riskier pick at 2nd.

If Cole Eiserman falls to the Hawks at 18th than they come away potential two of the better offensive players in the draft but Nikita Artamonov also being on the board means I think they could also draft him at 18th depending on if they took his team mate at 2nd or if they went with Ivan Demidov as he is also a good fit either way.

Their defense pool is already pretty set and they have their go-to defensive defenseman in Alex Vlasic. Demidov has NHL size and will have experience against men in the 2nd best league in the world, with him playing in the KHL next season, then coming over to the NHL the season after, which allows the Blackhawks to be really bad for another year, letting them get another top 5 pick. Nazar should be a sure thing and will develop nicely with Bedard, but they still need another top offensive forward, especially if Reichel doesn't pan out. Also no way Eiserman falls past 16. Caps would pick him up immediately. There are a ton of great defense picks they can get at 18 as well, and should look to get the high end forwards, as that's a smaller pool.

For what it’s worth, I’d personally take Demidov 2 and I wanted Eiserman to the Sharks at 14, but that was the fun of doing this collaboratively and having different opinions.  I don’t necessarily disagree with your take, but I don’t think it’s impossible that the Hawks pick a defenseman either lol

There's definitely a case to be made for Chicago taking a defensemen. About a week or so I was pretty sold on the idea that they would go Levshunov. Demidov had the same concerns as Michkov had going in, but after his interview with Davidson, in which Demidov confirmed that he would only be in the KHL for 1 more season and not resign, and is actively looking forward to coming overseas to America, as well as him being of NHL size and arguably the highest ceiling out of every other player, I don't think the Blackhawks would pass on him.

Yeah the idea of Demidov/Bedard is scary and Bedard definitely needs a new best friend like Kane/Toews, Crosby/Malkin, etc… I don’t disagree that they should and probably will pick him at 2

Not happening when San Jose has the chance to add a Crosby/Malkin etc... type of duo with Celebrini and Will Smith both coming out of Boston area Uni teams. I would also expect San Jose to be movers during the draft since they have two second round picks that could package together to move maybe into the lower 1st again to get another player that they really like. Also don`t be surprised if they don`t try to move off Vlasic at 7M aged 37; as he doesn`t fit the rebuild window; only concern at the moment will be defense heading into next season as I think this area needs to be rebuilt to protect their young forwards and young goaltender in Chrona. I was lucky to watch a lot of San Jose training camp last season via Youtube and was very impress by Smith and Chrona, but they are very much lacking at the D-core so watch for movement at this position either via the draft or UFA. Not sure who they would target but I am guess young defenders that fit long term or Cheap veteran defenders short term help.

You're spot on!  The only thing I'd say is keep Vlasic for the last 2 seasons of his contract as I think they won't be competing for the cup in those years anyway, that way they don't need to give away any assets to get rid of him!  Plus, he could just retire next season and save everyone the trouble.  But the Sharks definitely need to restock their defense.  There's Mukhamudullin and maybe Thrun and Havelid, but none of them are true top 2s imo.  If they could somehow trade up and grab Buium, I'd be thrilled! But I'm expecting nothing so I won't be disappointed when they go off the board with some no-name at 14 😝

This kid is underrated.  watched him play and kid is relentless.   50 goals too.  If he falls to Calgary Id be surprised.  I think Ottawa or Seattle will take him and Iginla will go to Flames

Great post.  Excited to see how it pans out
