ScottyP 200
Post-Game Scrum: Rip Wheeler, Vancouver Wolves - Season 95: The Vancouver Wolves locker room is a somber place. The team has just suffered their fourth consecutive loss to start the season, and the frustration is palpable. Rip Wheeler, one of the team's top, emerges from the showers and steps into the media scrum. Rip: Aight boys, send it, let’s get this thing goin’… Reporter 1: Rip, four losses in a row. Not a good start by any means…How do you guys pick yourselves up from this one? Rip: Look baud, it's uh, tough to swallow another loss. It’s uh ya know, a long season, a marathon, not a sprint. We ah, are uh, putting in the work, but uh, the puck ya know, just isn’t bouncin’ our way. We've got to find a way to bear down, nose to the grindstone and uh get some greasy goals. Reporter 2: You guys seem to be struggling to generate offense. What’s going on? Rip: We’re creating chances, I mean shit man, 50-60 shots or something like that huh?…but we’re not burying the biscuit. I mean uh, Hockey’s a game of inches and uh some nights the uh puck uh, doesn’t go your way. We gotta find a way to get that uh extra little effort, that extra little hustle from the boys and uh get to the dirty areas and make some shit happen. Reporter 3: The fans are starting to get a bit restless. Are you guys feeling the pressure? Rip: Ya buddy, we get it ya know? We understand the fans are frustrated. We’re the first ones to be pissed off and we’re professionals. We uh are expected to ah perform at a high level, no excuses. We uh, are gonna keep working hard and turn this thing around, no doubt baud. Reporter 4: You’re one of the leaders of this team. Do you feel like you’re doing enough to help lead this team to victory? Rip: I’m a vet, and leader, and uh ya know uh, I take full responsibility. I’ve got to be better for sure. I’ve got to uh, find uh, a way to produce more. But it’s a team game. We all need to step up. Reporter 5: Do you think you guys are mentally tough enough to overcome this losing streak? Rip: Mental toughness is a huge part of this game. We’ve got a uh resilient group in the room. We’re gonna stick together, keep in uh grinding, and find a way to start stackin’ some dubyas. Reporter 6: A lot of people are questioning the team’s effort. What do you say to those critics? Rip: Effort is never a question with us…We’re uh laying it all out on the uh line every night. Hockey’s a tough game. Sometimes things ya know uh, don’t go your way. But we’re gonna keep uh grinding and uh keep battling, period. And uh…. A reporter interrupts with a particularly pointed question Reporter 7: You guys look like a team that’s quit. Is that accurate? Rip: (Visibly irritated) Quit? Who the fu…(Rip catches himself and takes a deep breath)….That’s a disrespectful question baud…it’s 4 damn games in!…some uh bad luck and uh solid goal tending in the other end. We’re professionals son and dammit we’re all competitors. We’re going to uh find a way to win….we’re done here. The scrum begins to break up as tensions rise. Rip: (To teammates) Let’s regroup, boys….win streak starts now! 544 words Scurvy, Gaikoku-hito and Thunder 3 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/150723-post-game-scrum-rip-wheeler-vancouver-wolves-season-95/ Share on other sites
