Plate 386
Nobody will say hybrid attributes were a negative to the VHL meta. I would say, however, that they didn't go far enough with the hybrid attribute system. There are 15 attributes in total. However, poise, fighting and leadership are pretty useless. It seems like even under the hybrid system the meta can't escape the fact that scoring and defense will always be the most important statistics for simulating. Sure you have others that control how often you lose the puck, how often you retrieve the puck from opponents, etc, however under the decision making formula both scoring and defense will always be the most important attributes to increase. My thought was why not dilute those two core stats? You could reduce the amount of TPE those two attributes put into both defense and scoring, and expand further other attributes that could allow for different archetypes. An example of course could be hand-eye, that improves scoring (By a fraction) and puck handling (Why Deking improves defense might be over my head as defense probably has something to do with losing the puck less). You could also add a shot blocking stat, that improves your defense and strength (Don't know if strength helps with blocking shots but I heard that it does). Those are just a couple of examples but I think they get the point across that you could do a lot more with the system if you expanded on it further. Commissioner Beketov 9,102 Posted October 4 Commissioner Share Posted October 4 2 hours ago, Plate said: My thought was why not dilute those two core stats? Quick Answer: it won’t matter. People pushed for archetypes instead of the hybrids at the time and the general argument against them is the same as it is here: People will always just find the most optimal path back to meta and take it. Splitting it up into more options basically just makes extra work for the sake of creating something that won’t really be used (except whatever is optimal) and won’t really do much (because a lot of stats just have barely any effect.) We could basically double the amount of attributes we have and it would t really change anything, you might get A BIT more build diversity but long term people are going to find their way back to what they know. Daniel Janser 2,217
As long as STHS is giving so much weight to scoring/defence, introducing gazillions attributes does nothing to prevent Excel wizards to min/max for best efficiency with any given TPE total, while rooks to the league will be lost and either lose interest because they are overwhelmed or need a disproportionate amount of micromanagement by their VHLM GM (or whoever assists them in their build). The latter seamlessly feeding into my first point. What the Hybridattributes was preventing is that clickers or more casual earners cannot build a HOF candidate that easy anymore, which I understand was very possible with the previous system where you leave the 'undesired' attributes untouched and focussed on the big four (Scoring/Skating/Puckhandling/Defence).
