Post-Draft Recap - S97 VHLM Dispersal Draft

Recommended Posts

1st Overall

Mikko Tuomala - Saskatoon Wild

Already a super good defensive-defender and I think he has a bright future in the league. Was it worth the #1 pick? He fell to the #11 pick in the VHL draft, maybe that says something about the pick and where he truly should have went. He has had some inconsistent earning weeks, but that's probably a good thing for Saskatoon, as they will have him for a longer time possibly. I'd say this is a "B" - not sure he was #1 worthy, but if they're going for a rebuild, he might have been a solid option for them down the line.

2nd Overall

Kazuma Satou - Las Vegas Aces

#2 overall in the VHLM draft, AND the VHL draft. A defensive-defenseman who has a good pair of legs and knows how to skate pretty well. The highest TPE player coming into the draft, yet not the highest pick. SUPER consistent earner, always caps out. Love this pick, if they have a good contending team, this will be a great pick for them. Ill give this one a "A-" rating, expected, yet really only gonna have him for one season at most. Good player overall.

3rd Overall

Jack Jack - Houston Bulls

Jack is, once again, a defensive-defenseman. Why is the trend heading towards defenders who aim to be solid defenders? I'm not quite sure - but it is. Anyways, Jack Jack will be returning to Houston after he had 19 points in 72 games his entry season (S96). Should be a pretty solid returning player for Houston. I'd give this a "B-" - I like they stuck with a returning player who was solid for them.

4th Overall

Cardinal Copia - San Diego Marlins

Cardinal Copia, thank you. The first player off the board who hasn't fit the defensive-defenseman build, and boy am I relieved. He played 20 games last season, in his entry season. He tallied 2 points throughout these games. Looks to be a true playmaker, but struggles skating and puck handling. We'll see if he is worth the pick, so far looking good - being a solid earner. I'd say this is a "B+" - currently could be helpless without skating, but has the potential to dominate the league later in his build.

5th Overall

Pepe Silvia - Mexico City Kings

Andddd BOOM! We have a goalie off the board in the top 5. Pepe put up a 91.7% save percentage his last season, playing 20 games. From the statline, he looks like an extremely solid guy to have between the pipes, and I LOVE this pick from Mexico City, as he'll be their main goalie this season. Im gonna give this an "A" - I flat out love everything about this pick.

6th Overall

Elisa McMuffin - Ottawa Lynx

Solid defenseman, still early in his build. Not much to say about this one but considering Ottawa currently has 3 defenseman (and one is 60 TPE) - I think this is a reasonable selection from the team management here. We'll see if it does pay off for them down the line or not. Giving this a "B+" rating, below average earner meaning he will be on the team for a while, but has a pretty solid build going for himself at the moment.

7th Overall

Toby Bob - Saskatoon Wild

Solid defenseman, still early in his build. Not much to say about this one but considering Ottawa currently has 3 defenseman (and one is 60 TPE) - I think this is a reasonable selection from the team management here. We'll see if it does pay off for them down the line or not. I'd give this a "B" rating, as there's some solid potential. but currently nothing too crazy. Also a pretty good earner.
