Yes, I am biased. Yes, I am absolutely stoned and feeling like a great wonderful excellent rant. Yes, I am also right..at least in my opinion. As for the case… The Malmo Nighthawks currently have the best record in the league with a 48-13-2 record, one point ahead of their conference rival, the Moscow Menace. The Nighthawks are currently led offensively by ninth year veteran, Viktor Jensen, who has a team leading 83 points in 63 games, while six others are over a point-per-game. The offense, while not necessarily having a specific superstar to lead the way, has honestly been solid. They still have the third most goals scored in the league, so it’s definitely not all about Lovstrom. With that being said though… JORGEN LOVSTROM SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYER! The Malmo Nighthawks have allowed 127 goals this season. That is the best in the league by 22 goals, with the Vancouver Wolves next with 149 goals allowed. The team defense has been solid but Lovstrom leads the league in wins (41), save percentage (.936), GAA (1.98) and shutouts (8). Frankly, no one is even close to him in save percentage (Popa next best with .932) and GAA (Soju with 2.24). It has been an incredible start to what I expect will be a Hall of Fame career. Lovstrom already has a Greg Clegane Trophy under his belt and I do expect him to take a massive haul home this off-season. Here’s hoping a Continental Cup can be added to that pile as well. Not necessarily, but yeah it helps...Dilson won it last season with Davos, Braun with London in S93, Teno in S92 with London, Stopko in S63 with Calgary (admittedly shared with a member of the winning team), Greg Clegane in S51 with Toronto, Denis in S46 with Calgary, Wingate in S45 with Calgary (shared with cup winning O'Malley), Chershenko in S34 with Calgary, Reikkinen in S31 with New York, Qin in S29 with Davos, Rawlyk with Toronto in S16 (joint with a cup winner), Labatte with Calgary in S6, Desny with Helsinki in S3... So I would stipulate that if you do NOT win the CC the best chance to get the Kanou is to play for Calgary... Probably even longer, since three forwards are retiring after this season and no assets and no picks in the next two seasons to get replacements, the rebuild is likely going to get arduous and take a hot minute. Unless of course Lexi finds teams which need to drop cap and are ready to 'pay' a premium for doing so... Well rumor has it there are talks regarding the cap going down so FA actually may become an avenue to acquire players maybe. Like, I think that's something the VHL kind of needs. It's so strange how few players go to the open market and have teams swaying them.
