Sad Times in Davos

Moscow -- For two straight seasons, HC Davos Dynamo had emerged out of their conference semifinals matchup with a victory as the lower seed. But despite coming back to force Game 7 against the Moscow Menace, the Dynamo were not able to make it three-for-three and have been eliminated from the VHL playoffs.

 

Unlike the Game 5 beat-down that brought the Dynamo to the brink, much about Game 7 actually went in Davos' favor. They had more shots, fewer penalties, and kept the entire game close. However, due in part to a power play that went 0-for-5 while Moscow converted on their only PP attempt, there just wasn't enough offence to go around.

 

"You can do all the little things right, but in the day it's about putting pucks in the net. We just didn't do enough of that," said center Antonia Bucatini after the game. "We got close, but close isn't good enough."

 

The loss also signals Bucatini's earliest VHL playoff exit so far in her career. Despite finishing with a solid 11 points in the series, nine of those points came in the first four contests. With only two points combined in Games 5-7, she told the press she felt she just didn't do enough when it mattered.

 

"That's on me. If I want to call myself a leader of this team, I need to step up," Bucatini added. "But you can believe we'll be right back here next season. And I know what I'll need to do better next time."
