Hulking Latvian defenseman Guntis Gavilrovs just won 3 prestigious VHL Awards, being recognized for his tremendous season and incredible good looks! Well maybe not his good looks, but his 31 goal, 100 point 291 hit season with Vancouver in S97 saw him win the Alexander Valiq Trophy for Top Offensive Defenseman (that's offensive as in scoring points not offensive as in Guntis your looks are offensive to me.) The Sterling Labatte Trophy for Top Overall Defenseman and the Dustin Funk Trophy for Most Improved Player. Just an incredible haul for Gavilrovs and certainly unexpected as there were many great candidates for these awards who would have been deserving as well.

Guntis was lucky to have played with an incredible team in Vancouver last season where 5 players had over 100 points including fellow defenseman Bollos de Trueno who had 105 points and 86 assists en route to the Alexander Beketov Trophy. He could have easily won multiple awards himself and I'm sure we will see his name nominated again this coming season. Huge Thank you to all my teammates last year in Vancouver, Guntis trophy case is a reflection of our work as a team and our GM's putting us in good positions to succeed. Will never forget this season even as I look ahead to an exciting new opportunity with New York!

On a personal note I want to thank the awards committee and anyone else who supported my player in winning these awards. As a forum only user I never expected to get this kind of recognition. I don't know much of what goes on in the league, just within my team and I'm pretty quiet everywhere else. It's nice to know that you can join this league as forum only work hard and get recognized for your players performance on the ice. Thank you VHL this truly means a lot to me. I'm honored and will not forget this special moment.
