Next up in this ten-part series is the Halifax 21st! This past season, they finished second in the East and made a deep playoff run, ultimately falling to Houston in the Finals. It was a heartbreaking end to a very strong season, but one that showed just how competitive this team can be. But what about the future? Are they set up for continued success? Can they stay in the championship mix? That is exactly what we’re going to examine in this installment of the "Future Outlook" series.

Looking ahead to the upcoming draft, Halifax is in a decent spot. The 21st hold all of their own picks, which gives them flexibility in both the short and long term. On top of that, they also have Ottawa’s 5th-round pick, which could be useful if they’re targeting depth players or want to take a chance on a hidden gem. Given that their first-round pick will likely be a late one due to their strong finish, they might be eyeing a defensive prospect to help bolster their blue line.

The challenge ahead, however, is no small one. With several key players potentially on the way out — including Hater Tottingham @Trunkxolotl, Steven Nichols @SlyDigi, Petr Novak @LastGoon007, Manuel Ceson @dylanjj37, and Cysteine @Bea — there’s going to be a need for a significant reload. That’s a lot of veteran presence and experience walking out the door, and filling that void will be essential if Halifax wants to remain competitive in the coming seasons.

Newly appointed GM @flyersfan345 will be at the helm for this transition, and there’s no doubt he’ll have his hands full. Fortunately, he’s got all of Halifax’s draft capital at his disposal, which gives him plenty of options when it comes to building the next era of 21st hockey. Whether through the draft, or trades, there will be opportunities to retool and bring in new talent.

At this point, it looks like there will be just five returning players next season. But while the number may be small, the quality is not. Each of the returning players has shown great promise, and none more so than Zara Wolf @Banackock. Wolf had an impressive 39-point campaign, including 16 goals — the most among the returning core and fifth overall on the team last season. He’s a skilled two-way forward with sharp vision and the ability to make things happen in the offensive zone. If Halifax wants to stay in the mix next season, Wolf will need to elevate his game even further. He is, without a doubt, my player to watch.

Don’t make the mistake of counting Halifax out. Despite the looming roster changes, this team still has the pieces and the potential to be a force next season and beyond. But the big question remains: can they finally get over the hump and win the cup after back-to-back runner-up finishes? The fans are hungry, and expectations are high.

Lastly, with @rory stepping down, I want to take a moment to congratulate him on a fantastic tenure as Halifax’s GM. Your leadership brought this team to great heights. Best of luck in whatever comes next!
