New York Americans elder rookie winger Christoph Klose is known world-wide for his speedy offensive game. Now, the 36-year-old Klose is trying to bring a different wrinkle to the powerhouse Americans lineup, most notably with a keen attention to defense.

“Playing the wing with some guys who are in their prime, like XXX and Connor Low, it’s easy to want to jump up into the attack and try to pile on the points,” Klose admitted after the Americans’ most recent win over Riga. “My experience, though, tells me that these guys aren’t going to score on every rush, and that they need someone to watch their backs. If I can help our defense corps with their jobs, then that frees up Jody and Connor and everyone to go attack the net and be creative.”

Klose is currently second in block shots for Americans forwards, just behind one of the best two-way forwards in the game in XXX. He also is averaging just over a hit per game while only having 14 minutes of penalties through 36 contests.
