Bye Bye King

As the VHL inches closer and closer to the next major milestone of Season 42, the trade deadline, we have an interesting landscape among the teams - with some making obvious preparations for deadline day, some taking the more subtle approach, and others who could frankly care less. The Helsinki Titans have elected to take the more obvious approach.

In a deal with Calgary, Helsinki sent young defenseman King Czar III back to North America in exchange for a S44 third round selection. Due to leaks coming from Calgary General Manager Austin Gow, we know that this is just the first part of a larger deal. It seems as though Czar was moved early in an effort create the largest amount of cap space possible, as the percentage of his salary kept by the Titans would have increased had he played on Helsinki past Game 150. Since we know there is another deal with Calgary in the works, it's probably a safe assumption that they are targeting former Riga loudmouth Robert Gow III, possibly at the behest of his former Riga teammate Mike Szatkowski Jr., whom the Titans acquired during the off-season.

In other Helsinki news, defenseman and captain Don Draper has continued to play the way that we have expected him to play for so long - now sitting with 36 points through 31 games, just 3 points behind the veteran Matt Bentley. In front of them both, however, is two Stockholm rookie defenseman - Lord Karnage and Jack Kowalski. They have been playing fantastic together so far and it's amazing that two rookies are ahead of the two most experienced defensemen in the league, Bentley and Draper. However, you can't help but notice that the Vikings have yet to play a single game against Helsinki or New York, so the tides could turn yet.

That same thinking can be applied to the current situation with the Quebec City Meute: Their remarkably easy schedule thus far has led to that team being a bunch of elitist pricks with a superiority complex.  I listened to a podcast earlier that featured Clinton Chevy, the Quebec General Manager. In it, he stated that Bruno Wolf and Aksel Thommasen were "game-changers". Well, that may be true when you're playing the likes of Seattle or Calgary, but we'll see how much the game changes when you stand toe-to-toe with a real team like New York or Helsinki. My boy Wylde has your number, Bruno. Oh, and as for Aksel: Jimmy Faraday sends his regards.

The last thing I wanted to touch on in this poorly organized article is something that was leaked by a commissioner in his 'Fucking Retirecast'. In it, Jardy Bunclewirth eluded to the fact that VHLM Contraction was a major possibility. If it is, it could come as early as next season. Contracting the VHLM has been a debate for a long time, with proponents of it saying it would improve league activity and make it a better place for our new members, while opponents saying the onus is on VHLM GMs to generate content and make the VHLM a fun place for their members. Personally, I think increasing locker room sizes and making the league more competitive via contraction would do a lot of good for the VHLM.

That is all I have to say for this week. Good day.
