Ninetyfourgoalie 168
Toronto's Season 40 Trio Fulfilling Potential Back in the Season 39 off-season, Toronto Legion General Manager Edgar made a series of moves that landed the team the third, fourth, and fifth overall selections in the Season 40 Entry Draft. As bold a move as it was, it also was universally praised, even after selecting two first generation players with the three picks. Center Tyler Cote, defenseman Jerrick Poole, and right wing Sachimo Zoidberg were the chosen ones to lead the storied Toronto Legion franchise back to dominance. Two and a half seasons later, the team has yet to make the playoffs but is is certainly not due to a lack of effort from the trio of Season 40 draftees. All three have developed at a tremendous rate and have quickly become some of the best players in the VHL. Although Cote and Poole went directly to the VHL in Season 40, it is Zoidberg, who was a rookie last season, who has received the most attention. After a dominant Season 40 in the VHLM in which he led the league with an incredible 190 points as was named MVP, he burst onto the VHL scene in Season 41 with 111 points and the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy as the league's top rookie. Sachimo Zoidberg's scoring totals also paced the Legion, who, at one point late in the season, appeared to have a strong shot at making the playoffs. Following the season, Zoidberg made further headlines as he inked a five-year extension with the Legion, making it likely that he could retire with the team. Sachimo Zoidberg has garnered plenty of attention thus far in his young career. Tyler Cote and Jerrick Poole, although arriving in Toronto a season earlier, have gone relatively overlooked when compared to Zoidberg. Despite this fact, they have been integral parts of the Legion since joining the team, both playing strong two-way, hard-hitting hockey since their rookie seasons. Cote has been a fixture atop the hitting charts, reliably being extremely difficult to play against as he beats his opponents with physical play and natural offensive talent. Poole, on the other hand, has established himself as a stout defensive player who is rarely found out of position while also having a knack for getting the offense going, leading the Legion in assists in each season he's been in the VHL. This season, as Toronto has begun to fill out their roster with a more complete team, Cote and Poole's physical play has taken a noticeable dip with the team's drastic increase in puck possession. Yet the two, along with Zoidberg, are truly becoming the leaders of this franchise. While the Legion have a more well-rounded roster, their big three has taken it upon themselves to make up for areas where the team may still be lacking, not only pacing the team in points and being among the best in the league at their respective positions but ensuring that when they're on the ice, they are the better team. Despite the Legion's goal differential of just six over the course of the season, Cote is a +28, Poole a +26, and Zoidberg at +25, helping the Legion to a 9-1 record over their past ten games. Jerrick Poole has led the Legion in assists since his Season 40 arrival. It is clear that Toronto made the right choices with their three first round selections in the Season 40 Entry Draft but one has to wonder if the three will be enough to help the team achieve its Continental Cup dreams. While they added Slaeter Fjorsstrom, Bennett Wahl, and Kimmo Salo in the off-season and have a solid supporting cast, their rebuild simply has not picked up the steam many expected after their Season 40 haul. Season 41 first round selection Fedir Okranitz does not appear to be the franchise goaltender the Legion were hoping for and with a number of teams including the Cologne Express, Seattle Bears, Stockholm Vikings, and HC Davos Dynamo at similar points in their rebuilds, there is a long road ahead for the team. The most important thing they must do, though, is ensure that the trio of Cote, Poole, and Zoidberg's primes aren't wasted in a bout of mediocrity over the next few seasons. Laflamme 376
Content: 2/2- Really good read. I almost had to deduct marks because you forgot to mention Jamie Hill. Grammar: 2/2- Not to bad, nothing enough to deduct marks. Appearance: 1/1- Looks great. Lots of pictures, has a title and well over the word count.
