Riga loses lottery

After E'Twaun Delicious essentially demanded he play for Riga, it has been seen as commin knowledge that the sniping Frenchblob would end up suiting up for the Reign. The team chose to bring in goalie Bernie Gow as their GM prospect despite goaltender Hans Wingate establishing himself as the top prospect in the draft because of this train of thought. However, despite owning the worst record in the VHL, Riga fell to the 2nd overall pick in the lottery. Worse yet, the team that leapfrogged them was conference rival Stockholm. Had Calgary or Seattle jumped over the Reign, it wouldn't have been a big deal as Delicious has stated he isn't very interested in playing for either franchise. While it isn's a foregone conclusion that Stockholm will select Delicious, this is a team that has a great young core of defensemen and a need for forwards. With Delicious being the top forward on the board, it's a stark possibility that he will don Vikings colors.

While it sucks that Riga could lose out on a player that has stated he would play his whole career there if they drafted him, the team still sits with a good goalie prospect, two first round picks this year and three firsts next season. Pablo Escabar and Francis York Morgan are two massively talented defensemen who stand as possibilities with the second overall pick should Delicious be on the board, givig the team a good opportunity to jump start the inportant unit. Then there's also Bronson Faux, a talented center whose agent is linked to Riga through Brennan McQueen and who hasn't been practicing much of late, perhaps in an effort to remain on the board for Riga's later first. Crazier things have happened before.
