Season 42 Went OK

Season 42 has officially come to an end, meaning there is a few short off-season days between now and the beginning of Season 43. First and foremost, we must congratulate the Cologne Express and the Brampton Blades for winning the Continental Cup and the Founder's Cup, respectively. Now, moving on. Season 42 was special in the sense that it was the first full season following the league's restructuring of leadership back in Season 41.

Overall, however, the VHL's 42nd season was a successful and productive one. Games were simulated relatively smoothly, with only a few minor drunken escapades impeding the games from being simmed.  As well, the basic day-to-day business of the league seemed to go on without interruption. Further, though, we've been able to see some promising changes that may reflect the future of the Victory Hockey League.

Namely, the contracting of the VHLM. This was something thats been up for debate ever since the expansion initially took place, so finally laying it to rest for the time being is a welcomed step in the right direction. I'm also happy to report that the league only suffered one causality as a result of contraction - good day, 701. Good day. Anyways, with recent statistics published by VHL Commissioner Higgins showing alarming numbers about VHLM game ratings, the case for contraction is even stronger. Having VHLM players less segregated will create more interaction between teammates, which will hopefully lead to an overall increase in activity and player retainment.

Another promising event this season was the preliminary test of the VHFL - the Victory Hockey Fantasy League. Despite being exclusive to playoffs this season, the VHFL showed extreme potential, with over 50 people signing up in just a short amount of time. The VHFL also generated a decent amount of discussion amongst competitors. In Season 43, the VHFL will be active for the entire season and the point structure will be much more inclusive, to account for different types of players, as this first test only awarded points for goals and assists.

Steps were also taken this season to improve the effectiveness of the VHL Board of Governors. With a few old members being relieved of their duties, the league appointed some fresh faces with fresh ideas in Phil, Frank, and Eaglesfan to sit at the table.

Now, not to spoil anything, but there is still time before Season 43 which means there is still time for interesting announcements to be made. Recruitment and retainment is something that has been discussed a lot, and there has yet to be an announcement about the consequences of contraction when it comes to the simulator so look out for those. In any event, let us look forward to Season 43.
