Theo's Season & Draft Stock

The season has to come to an end, and it is safe to say that it was an interesting one for Theo Matsikas. Theo took the league by storm when he first got drafted, and showed all the attributes of a top draft pick. As the season went on, Theo’s dedication and will died. His development slowed, and scouts lost interest in him. When Oslo received a first round buy, which seemed to motivate Theo again! Theo’s training was back at the level we once saw, and his game on the ice was better then ever! The Oslo Storm and Theo swept their first round of playoffs. But the playoffs against Brampton seemed to be a task to tough. Brampton came out winning the first game, and Oslo the second game, but after that it was all Brampton. Brampton would win the next three to take the series in five games. Three out of Brampton four wins were a one-goal game, so it could have easily gone either way.

Not only did Oslo have a great season, but Theo did on paper as well. Theo was fifth in team scoring, with 116 points! Although being fifth in points, he was second on the team in plus minus, and second in minute’s player! When we compare Theo to the rest of the league he also stacked up well, which feature him in the top categories for six different stats! Theo had the six most assists! He was sixth in defenseman scoring! Second in plus minus! Eighth in shots blocked! Tenth in power play goals! Second in minutes played! Its safe to say that Theo’ season was an eventful for one, not only a rookie!

Theo now has his mind set on the VHL draft. Theo has been steadily projected at 13th overall from two different sources of draft rankings. There has been rumbling that Theo could go early then 13th, with some other prospects dropping out of the top ten.  A lot of scouts have Theo as being a boom or bust pick. When Theo is on his game, and dedicated to developing, its hard to find a better prospect with his work ethic. Sure he may be behind other prospects in terms of total development, there is no doubt that Theo could catch up to them. On the other side of things, Theo could be a bust getting drafted so early. Theo did lose interest in chasing the puck in the middle of the season like mentioned before.  If this happens to be a reoccurring theme of Theo’s career it would defiantly make him a bust! GM’s have noticed both sides of Theo’s game and it will be interesting to see where he goes come draft day!
