Kel 62
S43 VHL Entry Draft Class: Defensemen First Round, Fourth Overall: Pablo Escabar, TPE: 278 Escabar’s the leading defenseman in practice hours earned and he’s one of the two defensemen who’re in the VHL right now. Escabar’s a member of the Seattle Bears defensemen and he’s learning from veteran, Phil Villeneuve how to become a top defenseman in the league. Escabar’s two way defenseman with a huge offensive upside out of Canada and he’s surprised many this season becoming a top pick as a first generation player. So far into the season, he’s tallied four goals, 19 points, a plus 14, 92 hits, and 71 shots blocked. Escabar’s 19 points come’s fifth out of rookie scoring and is second for rookie defensemen scoring. Seattle currently sits second in the Eastern conference with 62 points, which is eight short of the first seed. Escabar should become a top pairing defensemen on Seattle soon as he’s already surpassed one defenseman, Borje Samuelsson in practice hours and is only a 70 hours short of passing the other, Nicklas Karlsson. First Round, Fifth Overall: Francis York Morgan, TPE: 261 Francis York Morgan was projected to be the first defenseman selected in the S43 VHL Entry Draft for a long time. However, once scouts noticed the Canadian defenseman, Escabar always working hard and improving. Morgan dropped on the rankings, but he didn’t drop that far as Stockholm picked him up with their first pick in the S43 VHL Entry Draft. It was a good one as Morgan’s produced four goals, 16 points that’s sixth in rookie scoring and third in defensemen rookie scoring. He’s a plus 36, 21 hits, and 39 shots blocked showing his offensive defenseman skills. Morgan’s been great help to Stockholm’s backend as their season continues to be promising standing second in the Western conference with 70 points. Morgan’s a talented defenseman, but scouts say he dropped in the draft because he was more offensive minded and didn’t play a great two way game. He’s showing in his rookie season that he can. First Round, Seventh Overall: MC Hammer, TPE: 121 Hammer’s the third defenseman taken in the S43 VHL Entry Draft by Riga Reign. His development hasn’t been what they expected as he’s now at 121 practice hours, which puts him in the bottom eight in amount of practice hours from defensemen. Hammer’s spent another season in the VHLM where he’s excelled as an offensive defenseman scoring 34 goals, 101 points that’s the most of any defenseman and seventh most in the league. Also, he’s a plus 83, 90 hits, and 51 shots blocked making him the early candidate for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy. He’s led the Bern Royals’ backend alongside partner, Chuck Goody who’s had a great season too. He’s become the best defenseman in the VHLM offensively right now.. Due to his drop in work ethic we expect that Hammer will be contending for the trophy again next season as we would be surprised to see him in the VHL barring a huge improvement in development. Join us next week for the rest of the first round. Edited May 25, 2015 by John

Sixersfan594 247
Content 3/3 - I generally love articles like this because you get to look back and evaluate just how much has changed since the prospects were drafted and how an obvious pick to go in the top of the draft turns out to be a bust, or that they under perform. Grammar 1.75/2 - DAAD covered most of it, though I found some. Escarbar's = Escabar is (looks better, sounds better this way) Veteran, Phil = Veteran Phil noticed the Canadian = noticed Canadian Appearance 1/1 - Looks pretty good Final 6/
