Whatcha Gonna Do Brother

The Saskatoon Wild hope to run wild on the rest of the five VHLM teams this season. In what should be on of the most competitive VHLM season in many years, the end have build a strong defensive core in what is usually an offend driven league. Today we'll look at the back-end for the Wild and see if defense can really win a championship.

Biggu Kyanon (Season 45 Draftee)

A front runner for the Ryan Sullivan Trophy before even playing a game, Kyanon is a game changer from the defenseman position. Hailing from Naha, Okinawa, Japan and coming from one of the most impressive agencies in the VHL over the course or the past forty-three season, Kyanon is expected to produce from day one. Kyanon has been compared to Duncan Keith from the Chicago Blackhawks with the way his play can dictate a game on both the offensive and defensive sides. Look for Kyanon to be a leader for the Wild in what will be his only season in the VHLM.

MC Hammer (Bern Royals 6th Overall, Riga Reign 7th Overall)

Another offensive defenseman for the Wild, Hammer can really bring it from the blue-line. Hammer has played two seasons in the VHLM already with the Bern Royals, proving his worth last season with a 129 point performance. After such a great performance last season with the Royals that included a Founders Cup championship, many thought that Hammer would walk home with the Ryan Sullivan Trophy for the leagues top defenseman but Hammer came up short. Now with the Wild and helping to anchor on of the best blue-lines in the VHLM, Hammer hopes to duplicate the season with the Royals in season forty-three this year with his new club.

Erik Hedman (Saskatoon Wild 8th Overall, Stockholm Vikings 15th Overall)

A homegrown talent on the back-end for the Wild, who picked Hedman back in the season forty-three VHLM draft. Hedman has been a stable for the Wild last season and it should be interesting to see his role this season on a much better defensive core. Hedman led the team last season in assists with seventy-six and overall was second in points on the with ninety-four points. With Kyanon and Hammer coming into the fold with for the Wild this season, Hedman may see his numbers dip a bit, but if the team should take hom a championship come seasons' end we're sure Hedman would have no complaints.

Stabby McFullO'Schmidt (Bratislava Watchmen 27th Overall, Calgary Wranglers Undrafted)

After being drafted back in season forty-two O'Schmidt, brings loads of experience to the Wild after a long playoff run last season with the Blades. After a tough season with the Watchman in season forty-two, O'Schmidt was traded mid-season to the Brampton Blades for what would turn into very impressive post-season run for O'Schmidt and the Blades in the VHLM North American conference. O'Schmidt was brought over for fellow season forty-three draft pick Jed Mosley and a third round pick, which may not seem like a lot but his loads of experience within the conference with do wonders for a young Wild franchise.
