Claimed:Season 18 VHL Entry Draft Tournament Mathias Chouinard VS ...... [FINAL 6/6]

Recommended Posts

With new information coming in that Jakob Kjeldsen, Geno Esposito, Chad Murphy and Dante Terragni also came in around Season 18, I will add them into the Tournament just for shits and giggles. This will now be a 33 man double elimination tournament. Since I already made a MS about Mathias Chouinard, I will now make another MS with who he was supposed to face off against. In the last random draw, he was slated to take on 3rd Overall pick, Jukka Hakkinen. This time around he will take on 13th overall pick Greinke who was selected by the Toronto Legion.

Round 2, Pick 13 - Toronto Legion select RW Greinke

Career Awards:

Season 18 Founders Cup Champion with the Brampton Battalion
Season 18 Prime Minister's Cup Champion with the Brampton Battalion

Season 18 Statistics:

Regular Season:
S18 (BRM) - 72 GP / 77 G / 94 A / 171 P / +86 / 66 PIM / 142 H / 668 SH / 11 GWG
Playoffs:
S18 (BRM) - 10 GP / 11 G / 14 A / 25 P / +11 / 4 PIM / 12 H / 63 SH / 3 GWG

The man known simply as "Grienke" started his post draft career flying out of the gate with the powerful Brampton Battalion. He scored 77 goals and assisted on a staggering 94 for a total of 171 points. Interestingly enough this was not enough for individual awards. Brampton won the Prime Minister's Cup as the Regular Season Champions. They finished 1st by 18 points over the Saskatoon Wild. They also ended up facing the 2nd place Saskatoon Wild. In a high scoring series the Battalion prevailed on the strength of Grienke's goal scoring prowess and on the back of Aiden Shaw's great goaltending performance. They moved on to face the Gothenburg Eagles in the finals. It was a very anti-climactic series as the Battalion swept the Eagles in 4 games to claim the Founder's Cup. In the 10 games Grienke scored 11 goals and had 14 assists for 25 points. He led the team in points but didn't win playoff MVP as that honor went to Aiden Shaw.

Season 19 Statistics:

Regular Season:
S19 (TOR) - 72 GP / 22 G / 30 A / 52 P / -1 / 64 PIM / 91 H / 239 SH / 1 GWG
Playoffs:
S19 (TOR) - 5 GP / 1 G / 3 A / 4 P / 0 / 2 PIM / 13 H / 9 SH / 0 GWG

After lighting the world on fire in the minors the year before, Grienke and most of his teammates from Brampton graduated to the VHL. He put up a decent output with 22 goals and 30 assists for 52 points. He was also only a -1 on a team full of rookies, so that is pretty good. The Toronto Legion barely squeaked into the playoffs. They finished with 70 points while the Seattle Bears finished with 64 points. It was all for not though as they were easily brushed aside in a 5 game series loss to the Calgary Wranglers who were on their way to winning their 2nd Continental Cup in a row. In the 5 game series Grienke had 1 goal and 3 assists for 4 points. Grienke is also showing his worth on the defence side of things with a -1 rating in 77 games.

Season 20 Statistics:

Regular Season:
S20 (CAL) - 72 GP / 11 G / 28 A / 39 P / -48 / 28 PIM / 42 H / 96 SH / 1 GWG
Playoffs:
S20 (CAL) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG

Grienke was traded in the off-season to the Calgary Wranglers. He was traded with a Season 20 Madrid Thunder 1st Round Draft Pick which turned out to be Kevyn Hesje for Lars Berger. He didn't live up to expectations in his first season in Calgary. He regressed to the tune of 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points. He was also an ugly -48. Calgary was also not a very good team as they missed the playoffs by 44 points.

Career Statistics:

Regular Season:
Career (BRM) - 72 GP / 77 G / 94 A / 171 P / +86 / 66 PIM / 142 H / 668 SH / 11 GWG

Career (TOR/CAL) - 144 GP / 33 G / 58 A / 91 P / -49 / 92 PIM / 133 H / 335 SH / 2 GWG

Playoffs:
Career (BRM) - 10 GP / 11 G / 14 A / 25 P / +11 / 4 PIM / 12 H / 63 SH / 3 GWG

Career (TOR/CAL) - 5 GP / 1 G / 3 A / 4 P / 0 / 2 PIM / 13 H / 9 SH / 0 GWG

Grienke promptly retired after Season 20 leaving behind a legacy of unfilled potential. He had a great season in the minors and seemed like he was going to carry that over into the VHL after his season in the minors. He had a pretty decent rookie season in the VHL but it all fell apart after the trade to Calgary.  Well there you have it; I guess we know who will win this matchup between Mathias Chouinard and Grienke.

Content 3/3 - I enjoyed reading the overview of Greinke. It's a shame that he never hit is potential but he still put up some decent stats. That one season in Brampton is definitely a memorable one. I'm looking forward to seeing the other brackets and how all of this plays out.

Grammar 2/2 - Looks pretty good to me. I just nit-picked at a couple of things:

Tournament -> tournament
3rd overall pick -> third-overall pick

Appearance 1/1 - A picture would have been nice, but the colours and stats are goo enough.
