Looking at Some Old Trades

Everyone always has their first impression posts they make on trade threads, but the value of trades really can’t be seen until a few seasons or games later. For example, when Cologne gave up a 1st round pick for Robin Gow, I was among many who thought that Cologne gave up too much for a rental when players like RGIII were going much cheaper. However, Cologne proved us wrong when Robin Gow beasted in the playoffs and Cologne went on to win the cup. Enough with the talking nice about my brother, let’s get onto my old trades.

S44 CGY 2nd (D Supa Hot Fire)

This trade was actually a lot more interesting than it appeared, because Riga and Toronto actually had a similar trade posted about 10 minutes before this one. However, that trade became void because Riga offered Toronto a draft pick they did not actually own. For some reason, Edgrr had never received word that I was willing to match Riga’s price, but once I saw the trade I yelled at him and he quickly traded with me instead, which added fuel to the Riga-Calgary sibling rivalry. A lot of people at the time thought I gave up too much for Hill, as a 1st and 2nd was a lot for a player who was considering quitting. However, I am good friends with Hill and knew that if she went to my team I could convince her to stick around. The trade has worked out pretty well for me, as Hill has become our top defender, being our only defender with 99 defense. In return, the Legion drafted Theo Matsikas, who is a semi-active welfare player currently at 210 tpe, and a useless Seth player. I’d consider this trade a win for me as neither pick really worked out for Toronto and I got a young and solid defensewoman.

(S40) LW - Rami Jakobssen

S44 HSK 2nd (C Jefferson Jackson)
S45 CGY 2nd

I remember this deal happened right around the trade deadline; I was just sitting there and Kesler chatted me and was like, “give me two 2nds for Jakobssen.” I don’t remember why Kesler was trading Jakobssen, though it probably was to make salary cap room for other deadline deals. I received another solid young player in Jakobssen, as he currently is at 524 tpe from his welfare and job as practice facility manager. I also received Quebec’s 2nd in the deal, which was pretty meaningless as Ash Stevens is inactive. Kesler was excited about the deal at the time because he knew Helsinki was rebuilding and would have a high 2nd round pick, but the 2nd rounder wound up turning into nothing as Jefferson Jackson is another inactive. It remains to be seen what CGY S45 2nd turns into, though according to the VHL scouting center the 20th best prospect is Michael Burch, who is an unknown. Overall this looks like another solid trade for me as I receive a solid player and only give up two not so great picks.
