TheLastOlympian07 2,388
Our 4th match-up will consist of Pekka Jarmuth vs Eric LaJunesse. Without further adieu here is Pekka Jarmuth in a nutshell. Round 2, Pick 16 - HC Davos Dynamo select C Pekka Jarmuth Career Awards: Season 19 European Conference All-Star Selection Season 22 Continental Cup Champion with Helsinki Titans Season 22 Terrence Fong Trophy winner with Helsinki Titans (formally Vladimir Koskta Trophy) Season 23 Terrence Fong Trophy winner with Helsinki Titans (formally Vladimir Koskta Trophy) Season 18 Statistics: Regular Season: S18 (DAV) - 72 GP / 10 G / 29 A / 39 P / +9 / 53 PIM / 21 H / 93 SH / 1 GWG Playoffs: S18 (DAV) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG Pekka Jarmuth went straight from the draft to the VHL after the Dynamo brass figured he didn't need one more year of seasoning in the minors. He finished last in team scoring with 10 goals and 29 assists for 39 points. Not the greatest but not the worst either. The Dynamo ended up missing the playoffs by 7 points. With such a low output do you think they regretted the decision? Season 19 Statistics: Regular Season: S19 (MAD) - 72 GP / 39 G / 50 A / 89 P / -28 / 75 PIM / 60 H / 301 SH / 3 GWG Playoffs: S19 (MAD) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG In the offseason, the Dynamo must have been not happy with Jarmuth's output and their decision to not have him stay in the minors an extra season, so they traded him. He was traded to the Madrid Thunder with a Season 20 Calgary 2nd Round Draft Pick (Jake Woods) for Anton Brekker (Madrid covers 25% of Brekker's contract). He flourished in a bigger role putting up 39 goals and 50 assists for 89 points. The team however, floundered and finished dead last in the Conference with a paltry 24 points. That was 76 points out of a playoff spot. Season 20 Statistics: Regular Season: S20 (MAD) - 27 GP / 8 G / 20 A / 28 P / -10 / 34 PIM / 67 H / 147 SH / 1 GWG S20 (HEL) - 46 GP / 22 G / 40 A / 62 P / +17 / 22 PIM / 62 H / 169 SH / 1 GWG Playoffs: S20 (HEL) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG After starting his season in Madrid, Spain, he ended up in Helsinki, Finland to end it. He was traded to the Helsinki Titans for a Season 21 Helsinki Titan 2nd Round Draft Pick (Yan Feng). In 27 games with Madrid before the trade he scored 8 goals and assisted on 20 for 28 points. After going to Helsinki he scored 22 and assisted on 40 for 62 points in just 46 games. The Titans however, did not make the playoffs as they missed by 34 points. Will Pekka ever make the playoffs? Season 21 Statistics: Regular Season: S21 (HEL) - 72 GP / 20 G / 47 A / 67 P / +16 / 42 PIM / 77 H / 236 SH / 3 GWG Playoffs: S21 (HEL) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG Pekka Jarmuth stayed with one team for a whole season this time around after bouncing around the last few years. He finished the season with 20 goals and 47 assists for 67 points. The Titans finished tied for 2nd in the European Conference with 86 points but missed the playoffs due to the Dynamo having more regulation wins. This makes 4 seasons with Pekka not making the playoffs, maybe he's a curse? Season 22 Statistics: Regular Season: S22 (HEL) - 72 GP / 18 G / 31 A / 49 P / +7 / 22 PIM / 58 H / 226 SH / 4 GWG Playoffs: S22 (HEL) - 13 GP / 6 G / 6 A / 12 P / +3 / 14 PIM / 6 H / 43 SH / 0 GWG Going into his 2nd full season with the Helsinki Titans, he regressed even more to the point as he scored only 18 goals and 31 assists for 49 points. His worst season since his rookie season back in Season 18. Guess what though?! The Helsinki Titans made the playoffs, that means the Pekka Jarmuth curse is broken. The Titans finished tied with the Dynamo again, this time for 1st which the Titans won because of more regulation wins. The home ice advantage deemed important as the Titans won game 7 at home to move onto the finals. In the finals the Titans defeated the Toronto Legion in 6 games to win the Continental Cup. In 13 games Pekka scored 6 goals and had 6 assists for 12 points. It seems as if Pekka turned a corner in his career. Season 23 Statistics: Regular Season: S23 (HEL) - 72 GP / 20 G / 25 A / 45 P / +40 / 12 PIM / 40 H / 154 SH / 6 GWG Playoffs: S23 (HEL) - 13 GP / 0 G / 4 A / 4 P / +2 / 6 PIM / 4 H / 21 SH / 0 GWG Pekka continued his decline into Season 23 as he regressed to 20 goals and 25 assists for 45 points. Despite the production he also finished with a +40 rating which was one of the top on the team. The Titans made the playoffs for a 2nd consecutive season finished 2nd in the European Conference to the HC Davos Dynamo. In the playoffs they managed to upset them in 6 games to move on to their 2nd consecutive final. This year though they would fall to the Calgary Wranglers in 7 games. Pekka's put up a paltry 4 assists for 4 points in 13 games. The decline is real. Season 24 Statistics: Regular Season: S24 (HEL) - 72 GP / 9 G / 24 A / 33 P / +20 / 30 PIM / 51 H / 118 SH / 3 GWG Playoffs: S24 (HEL) - 5 GP / 0 G / 1 A / 1 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 2 H / 3 SH / 0 GWG The decline continued to happen as he would post new career lows in every offensive category. He only scored 9 goals and assisted on 24 for 33 points. The Titans moved on to to face their rivals from Switzerland as they played Davos. The Dynamo easily disposed of the Titans in 5 quick and painless games. In these 5 games, Pekka only recorded 1 assist. Pekka Jarmuth is obviously not the same player he was 4 seasons ago when he put up more than a point per game. Season 25 Statistics: Regular Season: S25 (HEL) - 72 GP / 20 G / 20 A / 40 P / -12 / 40 PIM / 124 H / 170 SH / 4 GWG Playoffs: S25 (HEL) - 0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 P / 0 / 0 PIM / 0 H / 0 SH / 0 GWG In his last season, Pekka somewhat stopped the decline as he would score 20 goals again for the 4th and final time in his career. The thing was though he only assisted on 20 for a total of 40 points. It was certainly better than last year though. The Titans missed the playoffs for the first time in 3 years though after finishing 24 points behind the Vasteras Iron Eagles. Career Statistics: Regular Season: Career - (DAV/MAD/HEL) - 577 GP / 166 G / 286 A / 452 P / +59 / 330 PIM / 560 H / 1614 SH / 26 GWG Playoffs: Career - (DAV/MAD/HEL) - 31 GP / 6 G / 11 A / 17 P / +5 / 20 PIM / 12 H / 67 SH / 0 GWG Pekka Jarmuth had a long respectable career in the VHL where he put up 452 points in 577 games. He was also a Continental Cup Champion. That's more than you can say about half of the players who have ever played in the VHL. Players like Maxim Desny, Malcolm Kelly etc etc these players have never sipped from the Continental Cup, but Pekka Jarmuth did in Season 22.
