Wild Times

The Saskatoon Wild sit on top of the North American Conference in the VHLM and currently sit third in the entire league. They sit with a total of 70 points and a record of 34-13-2. After winning the Founder’s Cup last season the Wild have come back in Season 45 and done fairly well considering the losses they had from their cup team. They are currently on a 6 game win streak and are 9-1 in their last ten games. The Wild have a strong mix of young talent and veterans. Leading the way is former defenseman of the year MCHammer with a total of 118 points which leads the entire league by a fair margin. Without a first round pick in the draft the Wild still managed to pick up two quality players in Jonathan Killeen and Neils Skovgaard. These young players have helped the Wild turn into a contender once again in the VHLM. Let’s take a look at some of the young talent on the Saskatoon roster.

Jonathan Killeen
Jonathan Killeen came out of the gate hot with his work ethic and energy which was not getting him on the scoresheet but since then he’s picked it up. After a rough start statistics wise the young center has gotten himself close to a point per game with 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points. As the first line center he has had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders which he has carried fairly well. Killeen is still getting better and is a dark horse prospect in the upcoming VHL Entry Draft. He will be a top player for the Wild next season if he comes back and will once again be the team’s top line center.

Neils Skovgaard
The Wild’s third round pick has been quite a surprise upfront for the Wild. Skovgaard was picked late in the draft but has proven that he should have been taken higher with his 20 goals and 50 assists for 70 points. Skovgaard is currently playing on the Wild’s top line and has been producing from day one. He has been a consistent player on the ice and off the ice for the Wild with his work ethic. Skovgaard’s emergence has helped accelerate the Wild’s “rebuild” as one of the team’s top forwards now and in the future. He is proving to be quite the steal thus far for the Wild.

Cooper Supernaw
Cooper Supernaw was picked up on waivers by the Wild as a flyer. The Wild management took a chance on a young goalie hoping for a better result than the previously claimed Carson Shmyr. Well, Supernaw has certainly proven to be worth the claim with his work ethic and drive to get better. Supernaw has won the starting job outright with his impressive play on the ice and off the ice. He currently sits at a 13-1 record with .872 save percentage and a 1.91 goals against average. His 1.91 goals against average so early in his career is pretty impressive, although probably not sustainable but nonetheless impressive. Supernaw is making a name for himself and could be a top selection in the next VHLM Dispersal Draft.

Gregory Fallum
Fallum is another productive waiver claim for the Wild. He has been a good presence in the line-up although he is still learning the VHLM game with his 4 points in 19 games. Fallum is a bit raw but has some potential to become a really good prospect. He will likely be a mid-round selection in the VHLM Dispersal Draft in the off-season.

Joel Jarvi

Joel Jarvi is a highly touted prospect for the upcoming VHLM Dispersal Draft that was picked up off waivers by the Saskatoon Wild. He just recently made his VHLM debut a few days ago and picked up 1 point in 2 games. He will be playing with the top defenseman in the league in MCHammer on the Wild’s top pair so he will be able to learn a lot. Scouts will be watching him closely as he has potential to go first overall in the VHLM Draft. Jarvi will not be back with the Wild beyond this season as the Wild once again do not have a top pick but this will be an excellent learning experience for the young Joel Jarvi.
