Hybrid1486 577
As of the 324th game of the VHL season, there have been 49 shutouts across the league. While only seven teams have recorded one of their own, all ten VHL teams have been on the losing end of at least two. A few teams have really been on the dominant end of things, while others have been crushed when there's a goose egg involved. Here's a quick primer of how each team has fared in shutout situations. CALGARY Game Winner Goals Loser Home 253 CAL 1 COL CAL 193 CAL 1 HCD HCD 24 CAL 3 NYA CAL 150 CAL 2 STO CAL 1 CAL 2 TOR CAL 272 CAL 2 TOR CAL 160 NYA 4 CAL CAL 41 RIG 2 CAL CAL With a record of 6-2 in shutouts, Calgary has generally been helped by seeing one team record a zero. They've outscored their opponent 11-6 in all, and as you can see they generally don't rely on a lot of offense to win when Wingate is on his game. In fact, their two one-goal wins were both scoreless at the end of regulation, the only two such games in the entire league. COLOGNE Game Winner Goals Loser Home 122 COL 4 NYA COL 282 COL 1 QUE QUE 322 COL 4 QUE QUE 215 COL 4 SEA SEA 257 COL 3 SEA SEA 253 CAL 1 COL CAL 55 HEL 1 COL HEL 228 HEL 2 COL HEL 270 RIG 3 COL COL 302 RIG 5 COL RIG 108 STO 3 COL COL The Express are 5-5-1 in shutouts, including the 1-0 OT loss to Calgary in game 253. Brock Waldron recorded four of the shutouts in his final season, while backup COL G pitched in one. Even with a losing record, Cologne outscored its opponents 16-15, as they generally see decent offensive numbers when Waldron was at his best. They scored four goals three times, while Calgary never topped three. DAVOS Game Winner Goals Loser Home 11 HCD 3 QUE HCD 324 HCD 2 RIG HCD 42 HCD 6 SEA HCD 237 HCD 5 SEA SEA 254 HCD 4 SEA HCD 78 HCD 2 STO HCD 318 HCD 5 TOR HCD 193 CAL 1 HCD HCD 200 HEL 4 HCD HCD 304 HEL 4 HCD HEL 273 RIG 4 HCD HCD 33 STO 1 HCD HCD Davos fans saw a lot of shutouts at home over the course of the season, ten to be exact. They won seven of the 12 they were involved in, and lost one in a shootout to Calgary. Their offensive volume in those wins was pretty high, as they combined for 27 goals while only giving up 13 in the losses. They did give up four goals in three of the losses, which would lead one to believe that Callum Sinclair was really hit-or-miss a few times this season. HELSINKI Game Winner Goals Loser Home 55 HEL 1 COL HEL 228 HEL 2 COL HEL 200 HEL 4 HCD HCD 304 HEL 4 HCD HEL 256 HEL 4 QUE QUE 239 HEL 8 RIG RIG 296 HEL 4 RIG RIG 187 HEL 5 TOR HEL 27 STO 4 HEL HEL 137 STO 3 HEL STO Greg Clegane's campaign for Rookie of the Year was certainly bolstered by his eight shutout victories, although Helsinki's offense was also pretty dominant in those games. Clegane's 8-2 record in shutouts is tops in the league, as is their 32-7 goal differential in such games. Their 8-0 win at Riga tied for the most goals in a shutout this season. NEW YORK Game Winner Goals Loser Home 160 NYA 4 CAL CAL 286 NYA 5 SEA SEA 316 NYA 5 SEA SEA 111 NYA 4 TOR TOR 251 NYA 4 TOR NYA 263 NYA 4 TOR TOR 289 NYA 2 TOR TOR 299 NYA 4 TOR TOR 24 CAL 3 NYA CAL 122 COL 4 NYA COL New York also had an 8-2 record in shutouts, although their record deserves an asterisk since only one of those wins came against a team in contention for a playoff spot. They did make the most of the weak competition, however, as they only scored less than four goals in a shutout victory once. Their goal differential is exactly the same as Helsinki's, at 32-7. Niklaus Mikaelson notched six of them in his final season, while his backup won the other two. QUEBEC CITY Game Winner Goals Loser Home 282 COL 1 QUE QUE 322 COL 4 QUE QUE 11 HCD 3 QUE HCD 256 HEL 4 QUE QUE 121 RIG 1 QUE QUE 205 RIG 2 QUE RIG The Meute are the first of three teams who have failed to record a shutout, as rookie goaltender Ariel Weinstein is growing into his role in the VHL. They've lost six games without scoring a goal, including two to their former stalwart in net, Brock Waldron. Weinstien has performed fairly well in these games, holding the opposition to one goal twice and only giving up 15 in all when his offense couldn't put anything on the board. He'll get himself on the board in shutouts soon enough. RIGA Game Winner Goals Loser Home 41 RIG 2 CAL CAL 270 RIG 3 COL COL 302 RIG 5 COL RIG 273 RIG 4 HCD HCD 121 RIG 1 QUE QUE 205 RIG 2 QUE RIG 110 RIG 4 SEA SEA 174 RIG 3 SEA RIG 208 RIG 5 STO STO 32 RIG 3 TOR RIG 324 HCD 2 RIG HCD 239 HEL 8 RIG RIG 296 HEL 4 RIG RIG Riga has the most shutouts in the league, with ten, although their three shutout losses leaves them a hair behind Helsinki and New York in shutout win percentage. Bernie Gow was in net for eight of them, tied with Clegane for tops in the league so far. They've outsacored the opponent 32-12, although Gow was on the wrong end of Helsinki's 8-0 outburst in game 239. They used an interesting diversity of offensive production in these games, as they won at least one game each by scoring 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 goals. SEATTLE Game Winner Goals Loser Home 215 COL 4 SEA SEA 257 COL 3 SEA SEA 42 HCD 6 SEA HCD 237 HCD 5 SEA SEA 254 HCD 4 SEA HCD 286 NYA 5 SEA SEA 316 NYA 5 SEA SEA 110 RIG 4 SEA SEA 174 RIG 3 SEA RIG The Bears have been on the wrong end of nine shutouts, second-most in the league. SEA G has been shelled pretty hard in those games, too, as he gave up at least three goals in each. Their total of 39 goals against in shutouts is also good for second in the league, so at least Bears fans were able to see someobdy score when they paid for tickets to see the home team. STOCKHOLM Game Winner Goals Loser Home 108 STO 3 COL COL 33 STO 1 HCD HCD 27 STO 4 HEL HEL 137 STO 3 HEL STO 281 STO 8 TOR STO 150 CAL 2 STO CAL 78 HCD 2 STO HCD 208 RIG 5 STO STO The Vikings, like the Express, were fairly balanced when it came to shutouts. They did have a slightly better record than Cologne, winning five while losing three, and their 19-9 goal differential was also above the Express. The 8-0 victory over the Legion in game 281 tied Helsinki's for the biggest victory in a shutout this season. Blake Campbell was in net for four of the victories, while his backup won the other. TORONTO Game Winner Goals Loser Home 1 CAL 2 TOR CAL 272 CAL 2 TOR CAL 318 HCD 5 TOR HCD 187 HEL 5 TOR HEL 111 NYA 4 TOR TOR 251 NYA 4 TOR NYA 263 NYA 4 TOR TOR 289 NYA 2 TOR TOR 299 NYA 4 TOR TOR 32 RIG 3 TOR RIG 281 STO 8 TOR STO The Legion were involved in the second-most shutouts of any team this season. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your interest in their draft position), they lost all 11. Their 43 goals against was also the worst, although their 3.9 goals against-per-game was almost a half-goal better than Seattle's. Of course, it would have been better had David Blind not been victimized for eight goals by the Vikings. The Legion will likely address the position in the near future, as soon as this season's draft if a suitable prospect appears. Tylar 219
Content: 3/3 - Interesting to see all the shutouts in the league. Good research. Seems like a lot. Didn't realize Helsinki had a lot of shutouts and outscored the opponent so much in them. Atleast I learned something. Grammar: 2/2 - Typos outsacored = outscoredsomeobdy = somebody Appearance: 1/1 - Very nice.Overall: 6/6 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/24901-claimedshutouts-final-66/#findComment-278532 Share on other sites
