I want to take this opportunity to remind everybody that not all the hockey players like to give interviews. When you actually manage to get few answers from a player who dislikes questions passionately, it feels quite nice. At the same time, fans and people in general might learn something new about that player and perhaps even chance their opinion on that person purely based on the interview.

Well now that we got that out of the way, there is not many players who dislike interviews as much New York Americans winger, Jorma Ruutu. We have talked to him quite often in the past few years and we have noticed that mornings are not JR´s best time of the day.  At first we here in ´Stick Handlers´ magazine though it´s just us that he hates, but turns out that he hates everybody, especially on the mornings.
We learned that during one day when we saw him in a supermarket later on the same day after a morning interview.  At first we thought he was drunk, because he was smiling and actually talking, but turns out that he is just not a morning person. That was positive surprise and from there on we knew that the best time to try and ask some questions from JR is later on the day.

I need to be completely honest with you, he is still extremely hard person to do interviews with. You pretty much need bump into him in somewhere to ´arrange´ a interview. He refuses to use phones. Or that is what he told us. We have tried to call him multiple times, nothing. He more than likely gave us a wrong number or added our number to a some kind of do not answer list.

Of course there are other ways to contact a person, but after trying and failing multiple times, it´s easier to just follow him around in public and randomly bump into him and then try to get a interview.  We even hired a guy to sit in front of his house and when JR leaves, he will then call us here in the office and we try to find him based on the guy´s instructions.  Worked quite nicely at first, but then he moved into gated community which ruined that plan. You can´t get anywhere near him now. There is multiple exits and covering them all with a guy would cost us like 100 dollars each hour. Too expensive for his interview.

This might sound like a weird idea for a article, but I decided to let you readers know what it´s like to be a reporter and actually trying to get answers out of players. This is of course quite extreme and usually it´s easy to set up interviews. These hard to get players are the ones that often give you the most controversial answers and that of course means that more people are going to read your article!
