This week saw the revamped All Star game make its debut at its new slot at the Trade Deadline in an effort to add some breathing room to the regular season. That was not the only change to be made however as instead of using the normal voting procedures that saw the top players from each conference face off each other, the VHL elected to instead submit a list of the best VHL players for team captains to select in a draft process. As a result of these changes, some players who would have made the All-Star Game with the old voting system found themselves watching the All-Star game from in the stands. Let’s take a look at some of them:

Sandro Clegane

Acquired from the Cologne Express at the start of the season, the current starting goalie for the Seattle Bears would have comfortably made it onto the North American All-Star roster had the changes not been made, primarily because only three of the five North American conference teams possess starting goalies. At the time that the All-Star draft list was compiled, Sandro was seventh in both save percentage and goals against average which led to him being ineligible for the All-Star game, but had the game taken place at the end of the season, he likely would have made the draft list. While he’s still seventh in goals against average, he has since climbed to fifth in save percentage, which likely would have been enough to see him selected over Bernie Gow, who currently has a sub .910 save percentage.

Bubba Nuck

Like the goalie position, the defenseman position saw an uneven distribution of defensemen with five of the eight selectable defensemen eligible for selection in the All-Star Draft plying their trade in the European Conference. While reverting to the old procedure would likely see Riga Reign defenseman Jakub Ackerman missing out on the All-Star game (although given his recent form, he may have even missed out had an All-Star Draft taken place at the end of the season), the fourth North American Conference defenseman on current form would likely have been Bubba Nuck. While it would have been a close vote between him, Arcturus Mengsk and World B. Free, Nuck would probably just about win the place. Nuck currently has more hits and shots blocked than Mengsk whilst also being tied on points and, while he doesn’t have as many hits or shots blocked as B. Free, Nuck has recorded more points despite having played three less games.

As I end this article, I realise that both of my chosen players for this article are members of the Seattle Bears, so if you wish to post your conspiracy theories or need the Illuminati symbol, you’d best add them to this thread
