With the World Cup semi-finals just around the corner, let’s take a moment to take a look at one of the teams leading the pack, Team World. Team world has a 7-2-1 record which is actually the best in the tournament. After dropping two of their first three games, they have gone on to a 6-0-1 record to close out the first round of the World Cup. This was largely made possible by the play of none other than Lord Karnage.

 

Through ten games, Karnage has managed nine goals, tied for first with Jorma Ruutu of Scandinavia. He also has seven assists to give him 19 points which ties him for third in the tournament. To go along with this, he also has 26 PIMs and 44 hits. His four power play goals put him tied for first place and his five total power play points tie him for second place in that category. Karnage has also been very efficient in the dot with a 63.78% faceoff percentage with 392 faceoffs taken.

 

A big name on the blue line is Biggu Kyanon who is averaging an assist per game through the first ten games. He also has 21 blocked shots, which is good enough for second place behind Black Velvet, who is generally known more for his offensive prowess. Kyanon also leads the team in minutes played having played 303 minutes so far.

 

Kyanon isn’t alone back there on the blueline as Arcturus Mengsk, Prince Gigga-Bijou, and Felipe Rodriguez round out their defensive corps. These three have combined for six goals and 18 assists for 24 points, eight points apiece. They have also laid the lumber in the form of 44 hits and 40 PIMs.

 

The depth at forward isn’t to go unmentioned either. Edwin Reencarnacion who has recently taken home lots of hardware during the awards ceremony leads everyone in the World Cup in shot attempts with 76, six of which have found the twine. Raphael Pettyfer leads the team in +/- with a plus-four rating.  Pavel Komarov, the youngest of the bunch has only managed one point, a plus-one +/- rating, and four PIMs through the 10 games but has a faceoff percentage on the right side of .500 so far.

 

Last but certainly not least, between the pipes, we have Ariel Weinstein being spelled by Jakab Holik. Weinstein has played in seven games and has won four of them for a 4-2-1 record. He’s managed better numbers than Holik, posting a .920 save percentage and a 2.10 goals against average despite Holik having a better 3-0-0 record. Holik’s save percentage is sub .900 at .888 and his goals against average of 3.79 just goes to show you the firepower Team World can unleash to help a struggling goalie.

 

Looking forward, the top teams in the tournament are all pretty close in talent level. Team World definitely has the ability to medal this year but it wouldn’t be a huge shocker for them to fail with all the talent at the top. The Semi-Finals start tonight and Team World will have some time to see what the upcoming challengers have to offer as they have a bye for the first round.

(I think that’s right ^^^ the STHS standings show Canada ahead of World for some reason.)

You do indeed have a first round bye as the second place team. Canada is ahead of you because the points are different for the World Cup: 3 for a regulation win, 2 for an OT/SO win, 1 for an OT/SO loss, 0 for a regulation loss.

Okay, we had 3 shootout wins, Canada only had one. I see it now. Thanks for the clarification, I guess I didn't catch the difference in scoring for the World Cup.
