NotAVHLM-GM 1,858
Maximoff disappoints at World Cup. Going into the tournament people already said it, Team World had a great team, one of the best in the competition, but opponents would try to take advantage of the two young players on the team. Pietro Maximoff, being one of the two young players certainly did what the world expect off him. He failed miserably. While his team cruised to a top seed after the round robin, making sure they didn't have to play the quarter finals, the team got eliminated versus Team Europe in the semi finals. The result for Maximoff - 0 points in 11 games. Crowd cheering on Maximoff Playing with the big boys certainly didn't do Maximoff much good. On a line with Benjamin Zeptenbergs and the player he thought was the best in the VHL, Lord Karnage, he just was invisible. It was as if his speed had caught up with him. In the round robin, Maximoff was at best a good distraction, posting the second highest plus/minus rating of his team on the board. But it were Lord Karnage with nine goals and seven assists, Biggu Kyanon with five goals and ten assists and Edwin Reencarnacion with six goals and seven assists that did most of the hard work. The biggest surprise of the team might as well have been young goaltender Jakab Holik. In the three games he played he let in almost four goals a game, but he did keep World in all the games as he came out victorious every single time. But for World it was not enough to get the number one seed, as they grabbed the second seed and couldn't avoid Team Europe in the semi finals. \ Team Europe was too much to handle The upcoming finals will be between Scandinavia and Europe, the number one versus the number three seed. And going into the finals, you would say Scandinavia is the big favorite to win it all this year. With both Jorma Ruutu and Max Molholt on their team they have both top point scorers of the round robin, showing Scandinavia is a well rounded machine. The teams played each other twice this tournament, sharing both a 3-1 victory over the other team. So even though Scandinavia will look like the team to beat, Europe is an outsider, relying on goaltender Hans Wingate to keep them in the game. Wingate knows how it is too handle the pressure as he won the Continental Cup last season with the Toronto Legion. It will be an exciting final to watch, as it is one game to decide it all. And Maximoff, he will be there, sitting on the stands, watching how he should have been there instead. One more chance to get a point at the board in the Bronze medal game. If that fails, he will go in the record books as one of the worst top 5 picks to have performed in a World Cup. We hope for the Riga Reign that they can get this machine rolling, because trading a first round pick for zero points, well, it has 'bust' written all over it. FacePuncher 1,343
Review: Good article, sorry your player didn't do very well. I think I was the highest scoring rookie with only 6 points, so it wasn't out of the ordinary. I saw a few grammar mistakes, like you said it 'were' something instead of it was, but mostly good overall. 530 words @evrydayimbyfuglien Edited May 23, 2016 by ADwyer87 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/30482-claimedmaximoff-disappoints-at-world-cup-reviewed/#findComment-342163 Share on other sites
