Playoff succes in Riga

The Riga Reign did not experience much succes the past seasons, but things have turned fast. Having the luxury of being in a weak conference, the young team managed to get into the playoffs. For goaltender Kopralkov, defenseman Kronos and forward Maximoff it were there debut seasons in the VHL, so not much was expected off them, just to learn and adjust to the pro game.

After sneaking in the playoffs, Maximoff already told everyone not to expect anything from them as Davos would likely be the stronger team. “We are already happy if we can win one game” he said. And this wasn’t a lie really, as the past playoff runs Riga had, they didn’t manage to win games even with a stacked team. While saying this, he did not expect to do anything at all, making the playoffs was one thing, but winning a series with this team? It shouldn’t have been possible.

How different things quickly would become after the Riga Reign managed to win the first two games in the series. After splitting game three and four, the Reign actually had a comfortable 3-1 lead. After losing game five and six, it was now or never for the Latvian squad. One player being really determined to make sure they would advance to the next round was Pietro Maximoff. Being traded for the Riga’s 1st round selection for the upcoming draft, he wants to make that pick as low as possible, hoping it to become a lopsided trade, all in favor of his current team of course.

Davos did not come prepared, there was no plan on stopping Maximoff who managed to score a hattrick in game seven. Four different players all assisted on his beauties and he couldn’t have done it without Wesley Babiy, Titan Kronos, Chuck Goody and Jory Rose. After leaving the ice victorious already asked if a statue would be built for him by the people of Riga. After years of bad luck, Riga finally won a series again and will face off against the Cologne Express for the conference finals.

This series, which is still ongoing will likely be a bigger challenge for Riga, but they are definitely not giving up the fight. After losing the first game the Reign fought back to a 6-4 victory in game two keeping the hopes for an upset alive. But even if the Reign lose this series, they can look back at a remarkable playoff experience for all of their players. Riga is a team on the rise and with some players with potential the team is expected to perform better season after season. Hopefully this could attract some free agents to join the team on the rise. It has been a while that the people of Latvia had something to cheer about, so this is at least one step in the right direction.

With not having a first rounder for the upcoming season, the Reign hope that they can attract some of the free agents and claim the European Conference title in the upcoming seasons, the first step in their quest to the Victory Cup.

Review: Good job with this article. Didn't notice any grammar or spelling issues. 523 words so you're all good there. Had appropriate images. Best of luck in this round of the playoffs. I think you've already exceeded everyone's expectations so you guys have nothing to lose.
