Chris Fekete Jr. - C

Jersey Number: 19

Height: 6'0"

Weight: 175lbs

Birthplace: Burnaby, BC, Canada

Background:

Chris Fekete was born in Burnaby General Hospital to parents Chris and Michelle on August 19th 1998. He is the youngest of 3 boys, who all played professional hockey so the hockey gene lives on. If he never became a hockey player, Chris would've likely become a sports analyst or journalist as he lives and breathes sports.

Pros:

Face-Offs

Since he has 3 older brothers, all of them having played forwards in their careers, they have shown him the best ways to win a face-off and how to utilize that against bigger competitors in the dotted circle. Timing is everything and with lots of hours put into revolving his game, this is one aspect Chris seems to be getting better and better. As he gets older, his face-off prowess should be top notch.

Scoring

I don't know if it's because he watches a lot of Alex Ovechkin videos but Chris likes to shoot the puck and get shots on net. You can't score if you don't shoot. Don't get me wrong, he likes to pass from time to time but his quick release is something that can't be taught. By the time the puck is off his stick from the slot, it is either in the back of the net or the goalie saw it in literally the last second to make a deflection and send it out of play. As he moves up in competition, the question will be can he do this against men and not boys. Signs point to yes.

Skating

If you had seen him in his first year of high school, his skating would not be a pro, it'd be a con. The addition and mentoring of power skating coach Yew Skatefast has paid dividends for this young man. By the time he went into his 2nd year of high school hockey, his improvements were leap and bounds from Year 1. If there was an award for most improved skater, he'd win it in a landslide. No questions asked. First one on the ice, last one to leave. Always looking to work hard.

Cons:

Puck Handling

At times, Chris tries to do a little too much with the puck and loses the puck from time to time. He's young so he'll learn. There is nothing wrong with dumping the puck in and going for a line change rather than trying to outsmart and out skate 2 defenders and do it all. That's how turnovers are caused. He has improved that aspect of his game a little bit but he has to continue to play smart with the puck on a higher level.

Checking

He is not known to be a physical player so he stays/shy's away from the boards. At 175 lbs, he is not very heavy either so when he gets hit, 8 times out of 10, he will fall, but he gets right back up and into the play. Sometimes, when there is a scrum in the corner of the boards, Chris will stay back and not get himself involved because he doesn't like to, plus, he doesn't want to pinch in and get caught up the ice when the opposing team has an odd man rush heading up the ice.

Emotional

A lot of professional athletes hate to lose. Chris is one of them. He is very competitive and wants his teammates and team to succeed. A lot of times, he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He is very professional about it and isn't a distraction to his coaches or teammates, but he doesn't like losing. That is another reason why he tries to shoulder all the responsibility and tries to do everything he can if his team is down by a goal late in the game. He tries to carry the team on his back but that isn't always what the case has to be. He has been trying to learn to keep his emotions in check. His last coach he played for told him, just go out there, give it 100% and let the chips fall where they may. As long as you give it your all, you have no regrets.

Review:

More nice work from you, ChrisF. Chris Fekete Jr. seems a lot like my player! As a  center its obviously important to be good at faceoffs so thats a vital pro to have. The Emotional con doesnt seem that bad! its always important to be passionate about what you are doing.
